so much positive (loudest game in years, calling the name of every lsu player that went down, perfect attendance) and everyone wants to focus on a 10 second chant directly provoked by a spoiled arse...shame!

disclaimer: I haven't read this whole thread
I don't have any problem at all with the F U Tebow chants. He was taunting, and the students responded. Give and take...
HOWEVER, I DON'T understand the "will you be my b*tch" chant at all. What is the point? It's not clever or funny or even a gratuitous insult of our opponent. It just sounds like some 5th graders who are excited for any excuse to say a curse word.

the key thing here, and i hope it doesn't surprise you too much, is that it is for COLLEGE students.
I hate to break it to you, but mommy and daddy were wrong: the world doesn't revolve around you and college football is *marginally* for college students. No, CFB is a business. At LSU, it's run by the TAF, which is independent of the university. It's one of those "real world" lessons you won't get sleeping in on your COMM 1001 class.

he did turn his phone off. and now that his number is public, because of who he is, he is going to have to get a new one. im not crying for tebow, but more defending what he did. i thought it was fricking hilarious. he could have started cussing at the student section, flipped us off, done many other things to the SS. instead he took a clever, good natured jab at the student section, and the SS decided to show their arse. plain and simple
Very hard to argue with this.

south carolina and florida were big games. the student section gets into the games emotionally. obcenities ensue. that will not occur every game (and it hasn't).
exactly. these were the 2 games when things were bad. Why? Because these students grew up with spurrier running scores up on LSU and Tebow is arrogant

nothing was claimed. a previous post called the ss daddy's little darliins and implied that we are all spoiled. i pointed out that that is simply false throught he use of sarcasm. regrettably you didnt pick up on it. the tone and content of your post didn't reveal the ability to put together a decent and coherent argument. i apologize if i offended you, that post was mostly done in anger and what i perceived to be belittling me. however, i have yet to see a decent argument from you about why the chants should be changed.
I am fully capable of putting together a coherent argument. If you have read my posts why don't you understand that I have been bragging about the student section, as well as all the other great things about LSU. My point is that the cheer (F-U) takes away from so much of that. The natioanal televeision coverage is affected by the chant, and people who weren't able to be in the stadium had to listen to the Florida Band all night the second half. (to which your only argument was that I, who had to depend on the TV, didn't know what I heard...)and the band now has to censure what songs and chants they can even play now. (remember TigerRag...post touchdown chant?) I have tried to give props to the students, and did so in another post. (Just like the chant for the injured LSU player was AWESOME!!!!) but the "F-U" detracts from all the great things you bring to the game...You all are part of the LSU community. PART of it. Like the team, the band, the alum, the fans, the tailgaters. We try to give you your props, but that cheer, and the other obscenities end up taking things away from the whole community. We all have rights any group to which we belong, and every right has an equal responsibility to uphold. I truly believe the that students have a RIGHT to be in that stadium, all right where you are, together, by the band, near the team, at the lockerroom tunnel. Why don't you think you all have a responsiblity to accept that right with responsibilty for yourselves, for the school, and all of us that you represent?

I think the biggest problem with the F U TBO chant is it just isn't a very good response. UF just marched down our field...punched it in for a TD right in front of the student section...taunted the crowd...and the best we have is this...might as well have said nanny nanny boo boo.
All they showed was that Tebow had gotten to them. Its dumb.
I don't personally like the vulgarity...but at least be clever.

i agree with most of this. for the record, the florida band played at times when our band did not. if you watch us play an away game, you always hear our band. they also attempted to play over it a few times, but that doesn't work the the gbftl. i have not tracked your posting on here. in this thread, you bashed the student section. i don't agree with pointless vulgarity. i don't like "will you be my bitch." i didn't agree with "f u spurrier." but t bo pissed off alotta people w/ his cell phone stunt. people get emtional. seeing as he did it right in front of the students, we responded. i think we hold up our end of the barain pretty well. most of the people i know and i could not speak after the game for yelling as much as we did. the tbo ting lasted 10 seconds. i don't think that completely detracts from the rest of the enthusiasm and support we provide our team.

he got the best of us, and we found out in the 4th quarter we got the best of him, who's laughing now?

What do you suggest instead? There's not much you can taunt the opponent with when they're beating your team.

if you honestly thought LSU athletics could survive without LSU football, you sir, are an idiot. I know plenty of people who would protest the university in donations if this happened. Not to mention football players who would protest, and oh yeah, good luck recruiting players while having to explain to them that LSU doesn't have a student section.
You have too high of an opinion of yourself. If LSU cuts the student section by 1500 no one will notice except for the students themselves who now have a MUCH tougher ticket to find.
You may be too dumb to realize it but once that happens, it's too late. You'll never get those tickets back.
It won't affect recruiting. It will only help the bottom line. The recruits will still think our student section is great. Football players won't protest. The only one who loses is the students.
The problem is that the students aren't very smart as a group. There is no leadership to guide them. The band who basically leads the cheers are doing everything they can to keep atmosphere on an acceptable level at the expense of the LSU experience as a whole.
You are very ignorant if you think that LSU IS its students. LSU is so much more than that...and I would say the alumni is a much more important group.

and you think if they cut 1500 student tickets, that those cheers are gonna stop? hmmm, you are bright. Get over it, you will have to keep going to games and hearing the F-word, omg! I'm guessing you were never an LSU student, maybe jealous of what we have, and our passion.

Don't worry DAZtigers, you weren't the only one embarrassed by the student section's classless chants. The Greek section found the widespread usage of arguably the most explicit word in our language pretty repulsive as well. I had a professor say he may not be bringing his 6-yr. old son to any more games. Is that what you want? And what's with the GDI section giving Tebow hell for wearing jean shorts? Most of you cheesedicks throw on your best pair of jean shorts/cargo shorts and a t-shirt for the game. Put on a polo at least before you give anyone else fashion tips. Terrible ...

And here I thought LSU entrance requirements were going up, not down. Obviously, LSU must have replaced debate, rhetoric, and logic classes for something else, "modern media studies" or some other crap class, I'd bet.

First of all, I'm not offended. If it were just guys like myself that hear the language I wouldn't care. But, children are at the game and I don't think that's appropriate.
Actually, I do think stripping the students of tickets will halt those types of chants. Stripping them of tickets will be a HUGE event. It will be written about in the Reveille for months. But, by the time that happens it won't matter because there will be no going back.
If LSU strips the students of 1500, I guarantee you that they will be sold in no time. I'd be first on the list to get them in addition to the tickets I already have.
FYI, I graduated in the spring of '97. Yes, I have a degree from LSU. You do not. I contribute to the tradition fund. You do not. I contribute to TAF. You do not. So, by your own logic, I'm more qualified to offer an opinion on the subject than you are.
The fact that the students aren't bright enough to realize that this behavior is going to have consequences ahead of time doesn't mean that there shouldn't be consequences.
