Why does everything have to turn into a pissing match?

Patterson is a great coach, and Les is a great coach.

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!?!

This.

I would easily place them both among the best 10 coaches in the game. I guess it doesn't fit into people's worldview to allow for both to be good.

Just like Miles can't be an excellent coach if he doesn't beat Saban.
Again, I'm not super excited about this, but he's supposed to be a great recruiter and seems at least capable of fielding a decent defense. So I don't think it's quite as hopeless as people are making it sound.

Clemson had the 13th best defense in terms of points per game in 2010. LINK

Of course, he's also capable of fielding a bad defense...

recruiting kids to play football for Saban is a little different then recruiting them to play for Les. I can be a good recruiter for a Saban coached team.

C'mon, let's be fair. Nobody is doubting his abilities as a recruiter. He was the Rivals national recruiter of the year in 2005 at FSU as well.

I get your point that Saban will still get plenty of recruits, but I don't think Steele will have much trouble selling LSU either.

Clearing up a couple of things on Steele

I admit that I was hoping for a big splash, and it's hard to be super excited about this - but it may not be as bad as everyone is making it seem.

Just wanted to point out a couple of things:

People keep quoting Clemson's defensive stats from 2012. Steele wasn't DC there in 2012. He left after their bowl game in January of 2012. LINK

People (rightlfully) remember the drubbing that WVU put on Clemson that year - but WVU put up nearly as many yards on our defense that same year. LINK

Anyways, I'm hoping that Steele will continue to recruit lights out, and that we will field a great defense.

For what it's worth...

I recently subscribed to the sports pack on DirecTV, and I was able to get a discount of $5 per month for the first 3 months - just by asking "can you give me any discount?". You will need to keep the package for at least 30 days, but you can cancel it after that. So you can get it for $8 instead of the normal $13 per month. I plan to keep it for 3 months, which will cover the rest of the football season, and then I'll have to call them up to cancel. Annoyingly, you can't just cancel it over the internet. You have to call them up to cancel the "premium" channels.

Their regional sports networks are a bit confusing. I originally called to ask about adding the mountain west network, and was told that I already had it (I have the "choice" package). This turned out to be a lie. People who have the choice package AND live in the mountain west region will already have that channel. However, I live in Austin, which gets a different regional sports network included in the choice package. So the person on the phone just looked up the channel and saw that it was included in the choice package and told me I had it - they weren't taking the regional restrictions into account. If you want the out of market regional sports channels, you need the sports pack.

Hope this helps someone.
Very sorry to hear about that.

My post wasn't about what Lafell should do. That's a pointless discussion. It was about whether there is any news regarding his final decision.

So, you weren't looking for "Coors Light Cold Hard Facts" type of information (AKA predictions and opinions)?

As I attempted to point out earlier in this thread, Meyer didn't do such a great job utilizing "the fastest high school player ever":

quote:

J. Demps 9 23 2.6 0 11

9 carries for 23 yards... he just kept running Demps into the teeth of the OU defense over and over.

How do you start 1/2 a game?

I'm sure Meyer does things that leave other coaches scratching their heads as well.

Not that I'm a coach, but it wasn't apparent to me why he kept running Demps up the gut from that one formation. Maybe he was trying to set something up, but it seemed like they wasted quite a few plays with that...

I'm not sure his personality would mesh with Miles, although he would bring a dictatorial style of leadership to the defense and hopefully instill some discipline. Also, we could probably start giving out free gasoline to all the players... so it would be a nice recruiting advantage.

Allow me to add my name to the list of fans. Thanks for your efforts over the years
I see. OK, well that sucks but thanks for the info.
From the stands, I didn't see any fair catch signal from Trindon. It looked like he was signaling to stay away from the ball, then changed his mind and picked it up...

Was that a blown call by the refs, or did he really make a fair catch signal?

How big is the alumni group in NYC? Even though it's far, I imagine a lot of people end up there.

What cities outside of LA have the biggest alumni population? Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, NY?

Today people who hold cash equivalents feel comfortable. They shouldn’t. They have opted for a terrible long-term asset, one that pays virtually nothing and is certain to depreciate in value. Indeed, the policies that government will follow in its efforts to alleviate the current crisis will probably prove inflationary and therefore accelerate declines in the real value of cash accounts.

So Buffett is saying the government actions will lead to inflation, which was my uninformed opinion as well. I remember a thread a few weeks back where some were suggesting that we were likely to see deflation... is that still the opinion of most here? Or have the governments actions made that unlikely at this point?

Also, what are the chances that wages will more or less keep pace with the predicted inflation?
About 20 beers and 2 shots of soco. Then I had to make a 7 hour drive this morning. Poor planning on my part.
