Someone compared Jefferson's motion to a pitcher's windup. To continue the analogy, arm strength is worth nothing if you can't get it over the plate.

Lee had stronger arm IMO. But arm strength is only one attribute of a good QB, and not the most important. Decision making is #1 by a long shot. Others include ball security, vision, pocket presence, mobility, leadership/confidence, etc.

accuracy is the most important trait in a qb. Everything else can be worked. Accuracy can be improved on but a guy is either accurate or he's not.

Accuracy can cover up most other deficiencies provided he's not just awful in multiple other aspects of the position

A big wind-up doesn't necessarily help arm strength. It just gives defenders more time to react to a throw and adds unnecessary time from a decision to throw until it gets to a receiver.

That is one of Etling's greatest strengths. He has a really concise motion the gets the ball out faster.

Because Lee shite the bed every time he faced the Crimson Tide.

Yeah, like the time he hit Rueben Randall for about 35 yards to preserve the 2010 win with a critical third down pass.

he made 1 good play. It was an important play, but Jefferson was the QB on every scoring drive.

But it came at a critical time.

Who bailed our asses out in the Tennessee and Florida games? It was Jarrett Lee!

We lose both without him.

Lee was awesome in 2011. Jefferson was bailed out of UGa SECCG game (zero first downs in the first half) by the Honey Badger.

Lee was better than he gets credit for but his arm strength was certainly not a problem.

Not well enough to get on the field on 1/09/12! Sorry, just had to say that after paying a lot to see that shite. I'm over it now though!

I think Lee had the talent of a good backup...

The pass to Dupre this weekend where he was WIDE arse OPEN. I watched Etling pretty close on that play and it looked like it took everything he had to get that ball 40 yards down the field and the safety almost got there to make the play.

It seemed as I watched that Etling's front foot slipped as he threw the ball.

Lee was a stud, never understand why Lester brought JJ back

He threw two interceptions versus bama. We wouldve lost the game without JJ

Not really a big difference in arm strength but Etling has much better pocket presence, better at going through progressions, better scrambler and doesn't throw off his back foot.

I said it was an important play. We don't win that game (or 2011) without JJ though.

Totally agree. Doesn't change the fact that he had a horrible career against Bama though.

Meh, he got plenty of credit once he started playing well. He really wasn't a good QB his first two years on the field. He needed some time on the sideline to settle down and learn to play at this level. He had a beautiful release and a good arm. If he wasn't so afraid to get hit, he could have been special.

It's really not 'arm strength' anyway. Mostly the shoulder:

Jarrett Lee had an absolute cannon compared to Etling. Arm strength.. 1) J Russell 2) Mett 3a) Perriloux 3b) Harris 5) Jefferson 6) Lee 7) Flynn 8) Etling 9) Hatch

No Rohan Davey?

Yep.

Not to mention one of the quickest releases i've ever seen.

Those are all Miles era QBs. Rohan never played for Miles.
