04 they were 44 with 6 per game, but had 7.7 per game in the final 3.
LSU had penalty problems under saban as well.
We were 87th in 2003. They need to stop acting like it didnt happen under Saban and dinardo
Again, I'm discussing trends: in 11 years, CLM was in the top 50 only ONCE.
It's hard finding statistics for earlier years, short of checking the actual play-by-plays. But from that link alone, you can see that Nick Saban's teams are on average/consistently in the top 50. This includes a two-year stretch of being ranked 3rd and 8th
Harbaugh's team is currently at 27th and his Stanford teams also average out in the top 40, including a finish at 17th.
That's not to say there aren't any coaching outliers as well: just about all of Urban Meyer's teams hover around the 80s-100s.
But okay, apples to apples:
Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss:
2005: 5.2 (12)
2006: 5.2 (36)
2007: 6.3 (59)

Its hard to get penalties when your offense isnt on the field.
His best TOP at ole.miss was his 1st season and he 50th.
His last year a ole miss he was 119th in top
But i have no doubt our offense will be more disciplined under Canada. Im super excited.

Alabama:
2011: ToP - 13th; PPG - 3rd
2012: ToP - 15th; PPG - 8th
A well-disciplined team can stay on the field without the foolish penalties.

Ha ha. At no time did i say they couldnt. We were talking about ed orgeron at ole miss. Not saban. Also, at lsu, saban had some pretty penalized teams.
Let me help your argument.
You should be looking at penalties but also plays ran. Lsu is usually one the teams in cfb with the lowest plays ran (because we never run a hunh) and we still ended up highly penalized. Just looking at penalties doesnt really tell the story. If a team runs a bunch of plays every game and they have 8 penalties a game its not as bad as a team that runs 50 plays a game but has 7.5 penalties per game.

I've never watched a team have as many called back big plays due to penalties as last year's team.. We shot ourselves in the foot so often that I eventually became numb to it.
It appears you've forgotten 2007.

Well I was 12, and was more busy playing year round sports and travelling on weekends so i was doing that more than watching at the time lol. Didn't start religiously following LSU and being a recruiting junkie until I got in high school, then I was living for the sport. 2007 is kind of a blur for my football memory lol.
Some of us here are still in college and relatively young in our LSU cult-esque fandom!

True.
Fournette would own the single game rushing record (over 300 yards!) if that 91 yd TD against Syracuse wouldn't have been called for a hold.

Congrats for the only 3 penalties vs Bama.
I am a lot more concerned about the 6 first downs and 0 points.

Moving the chains resulting in sustained scoring drives just seemed like a monumental effort for us for a damn long time with that offense. So we couldn't afford negative plays. Caused our own negative plays way too often and it was a killer with that offense. Was a glaring problem at times.
How many times after moving the sticks would you say, ok here comes the delay of game or stupid penalty? We were conditioned to expect it; it wasn't superstition. Sad.

Adding to the past misery of so many delay of game and illegal procedure penalties from antsy OLs with the clock running down was the wasted TO's to avoid said penalties with the clock running down to 0 under Miles. Frustrating! And am convinced was due to the delay of getting the play in due to Miles 2nd guessing play calls on his head set.
On the other hand, let's hope that Coach O as a defensive coach background will live up to his proclamation to fully delegate to the OC and stay out of his way with play calling.

Great post. My jaw dropped. Four seasons ranked 100th or worse.

I'm not looking at rankings. In 2003 we averaged over 7 penalties a game. I'm looking at how any other year, those would have equaled even lower rankings.

Just bc he won more games than lost doesn't mean the football wasn't sloppy. The team almost always looked sloppy as shite.

Obviously, penalties have very little to do with the end result....most of the time.

shite, they don't even need to be facts. Someone comes up with an opinion and tries to pass it off as facts, and dukke v will respond with a boom if it fits his agenda.
He's one hell of a "fan"
