State of LSU Basketball & what’s needed

IMO, LSU’s next hire will need to be MUCH more than just a good coach.
The atmosphere, excitement, brand ALL need an upgrade of epic proportions.
Think of Dale but with much better coaching. I’m well aware that winning will solve some of the problems but making LSU “must see” and a hot ticket will take much more creativity.
* Students need to step up, as well.

Win and the rest takes care of itself.

You must mean men’s basketball because women’s basketball is good.

we had the guy that brought passion and fire.
not that I care about promotions, but when Wade was here there were promotions each game. My kids loved that crap. Uncle eddie hats, LSU basketball mugs, christmas ornaments, bobble heads, etc.
go watch an Auburn home game. the entire court perimeter for the 1st 5 or so rows is students. Opposing teams cant hide from the noise/chants/ridicule. Time for LSU to get on board.
Perhaps step one is get rid of the gumbo pot in the corner of the student section. Its lame to begin with and its not even in view of the free throw shooter.

You literally just described our last coach…
Yes, some of us know that’s the kind of coach it takes to build this program and that is why there is so much animosity about the willingness to let him go.

Yeah we had all of that and threw it away.

While WW was better than what we’re seeing now, next level success will require a better Coach

Sounds like we need Will Wade.

Just a question -- and I agree with your post --
Aside from Wade, which young, energetic, quality coaches are out there?
Which seasoned, top-quality coach would WANT to come here, after all that has gone on, and really have the energy & drive to add creativity and stellar recruiting?
I've always said, in order to attract stud recruits - with a great coach -- the PMAC needs to be either gutted and re-done, or build a brand new, state of the art facility.
LSU seems to drag their feet on this -- only settling on "refurbishments".
Well, Kim Mulkey is going to want a new facility -- just like Saban wanted new facilities.
"New Stuff" attracts people and recruits.....then all the coach has to do is win!

Agree, that’s the dilemma. With WBB (and KM), it’s an easier sell. Finding the right guy is extremely important. SW isn’t afraid to go after a big fish, so there’s that.

Over the last 50 years the most successful LSU head coaches have also been their most outwardly passionate. Dale was a relentless promotor and his passion could never be questioned.
Brady could be an acerbic horse's arse. But he was fighting, living, and dying on nearly ever trip up and down the court. You couldn't question his desire to win. He often looked like this at various points during a game.
The irony of Brown (purportedly) not liking Wade is that Wade was the closest thing to Brown since Brown. Wade promoted the hell out of the program. He was passionate. He didn't really care about the "rules". But more than that, he believed from day 1 LSU could be a powerhouse and that he could get them there.
Johnson, Jones and (now) McMahon always looked like three guys who were just happy to have a job the caliber of the LSU job and were TERRIFIED to make any sort of mistake that might cost them the opportunity. Thus, they were in a perpetual state of uncertainty. Their sideline demeanor reflected that. I think the job was/is just too overwhelming for them.
It's a competitive environment. So it takes a guy with ego and confidence to essentially say, "I don't care what the rest of you think about this program. I'm going to show you it can be great. So either get on board or get out of the way."
Hell, just compare Wade's opening press conference to McMahon's. Wade was like a bolt of lightning with energy. He said there was no reason LSU could have the same type of success Florida (previously just a "football school") had under Donovan and he had a passion to make that a reality. McMahon, on the other hand, looked like a nervous wreck who was just happy to have the opportunity. There wasn't a lot of fire and confidence coming through his words. Just a lot of "I hope we can get this done."

You’re highlighting the problems with our admin. We’ve never hired a big time coach in our entire history and we don’t have any basketball people within the program so what you’re left with are cheap hires from small schools hoping to get lucky. That isn’t a plan or vision for success.

How do we know Wade couldn't achieve that? We kept suspending him before the NCAAT.

This isn't 1995...or even 2015. Recruits don't give a shite about a fancy new arena. That was a pre-NIL selling point. Now they just want to know what they will be paid.
NO ONE lobbied harder for facility upgrades than Wade when he was here. He was relentless. Probably (in part) to his own detriment. But in an interview after he was fired the interviewer asked him directly about the impact of NIL. More specifically, that if he could have money for facility upgrades or NIL, but not both, what would he choose? His response, without hesitancy, was NIL. He said without it you can't get top players. So if you chose to spend tons of money on facility upgrades rather than NIL would would end up with MMMF ("mid major mother f__kers") getting their asses kicked in a really nice arena."
LSU needs a coach that (1) will fully embrace the reality of NIL and is willing to get into the mud and fight for big time players, and (2) someone with and abundance of self confidence and an unwavering belief LSU can be great, ignoring EVERYONE who may suggest otherwise.

He’s got another year after this one guaranteed. If he can’t recruit and keep quality guards he will be replaced. I’m not sure if he’s ready for prime time. He’s such a low key guy even at practice he’s not and in your face type . Seems as though his teams go through long stretches of really bad play . The next guy will be a Whale . That’s how Woodrow operates.

Just look at the facilities. It’s been clear that Scott and the athletic department doesn’t give a flying frick about our men’s basketball program long before WW was let go. Hell Wade criticized the facilities when he was still in good standing
