YES, it is all about the money. Meaningless this year and maybe next, BUT in 2024 a win could put LSU in the top 12.

I don't think a lot of people understand how the top 12 are determined. It is not the top 12 ranked teams.

Well, if it's not the top 12 teams than the SEC is going to get screwed by having such a tough conference

Can you envision a year when LSU plays non conf Clemson followed by Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, Fla and Bama
It could easily happen
That's a gauntlet too tough for anyone

Would not be shocked if two sec teams might potentially play 3 times

It will never happen as its a financial gold mine, but the SEC championship is no longer needed with a 12 team playoff. This year is likely the only exception as we (along w Bama and Tenn) would be in a 12 team playoff with a win over UGA.

It probably already should go away, based strictly on determining a champ. Almost every year we already know who should be champ. Like, what logic does it make for undefeated UGA to play 2-loss LSU for the conference title? All it does is expose UGA to a loss or injuries before the playoff. Most years have been this way.
But, money will keep it around.

It means LSU has a shot at being in the playoffs after a tough SEC schedule.

They can play those championship teams from weaker conferences.

Let's face it , Clemson gets to play Boston college and Virginia evey year. In 2024 The Big 12 tough teams are who? Okie State or Baylor?

I think the SEC & the big 10 might eventually split and form their own collegiate league

That all depends on where the games are played.

Unless they rank them so they are all on the same side of the bracket.

Probably needs to be a power 5 which is heavily concentrated in SEC and Big 10 landscape - adding teams like FSU, Miami, Clemson, Oregon, Washington, etc.

Than you can have a middle tier of teams

Followed by non power 5

Than old 1-AA along with any leagues below that

why

Because it waters down the season, I see no argument for any team ranked below 5-6 as being the “best team” and teams at 5-6-7 usually had their chance but lost to someone ranked above them.

No one really cares about the other levels of football but some of us have made this point about the basketball tournament and other sports many many times

Yes, Bama Will basically get in every year (same with Ohio St and Clemson). Will be awesome next time a 2011 scenario pops up again

That means you would have to pair the best SEC teams against each other then put them on the same side of the bracket. That's bull shite. You put the teams in bracket at whatever their final rankings are. I also think it should be a computer model that ranks the teams if it's 12 teams so that a human can't adjust the bracket manually. The BCS was bad because it was 2 teams. A 12 team computer model would be better than eye test IMHO.

All ranking should be computer based.

Last year all it was for was the 1 seed instead of 5 and in the process cost Bama Jameson Williamson.

What computers? Like some totally unbiased AI or models created by some statisticians?

They should make all the playoff games home games for the team with the better record and only play the championship on a neutral field.

The refs will make sure that doesn't happen every year. The other conferences don't want to see that along with most people that watch college football. They want to see their team/conference have a shot at the title.

12 teams is excessive but of course everything always has to get bigger and bigger until it sucks, bc money.

MLB is barely recognizable from when I was a kid. The World Series was usually over by mid-October.
