First and foremost, Kelly has done an amazing job with this team and the second half adjustments, defensive strangleholds, and recent development of Daniels has been nothing short of extraordinary.

But how do fix the level of intensity to start games? We could be downright dominant if we can start right out of the gate without tripping.

Florida State started 3-17. Finished 23-24
Miss State started 0-13. Finished 31-16
Auburn started 0-17. Finished 21-17
Tennessee started 0-20. Finished 13-40
Ole Miss started 3-17. Finished 45-20

Thought?

First two drives got into scoring territory, we just didn’t capitalize on them.

Also, Ole Miss’ top 2 tacklers were knocked out with injuries in the 1H.

IDK. It's really odd.

My guess is we start very vanilla on D and these OCs on the other teams get some easy scores.

On offense, we've had some good drives but just didn't finish them in the EZ.

The offense has been completely changed since Tennessee. Last 2 games we’ve been fine on offense to start. Yesterday we went FG, Missed FG, TD, TD to start the game. Vs Florida we scored TDs on our first 5 or 6 drives.

Seems like we start in a soft zone and get abused until Matt House says ENOUGH! Then we switch to the real defense and shut teams down. Like we're getting in-game training on how to play zone defense.

This is a brand new coaching staff who have no idea of long term tendencies of SEC opponents. Still trying to implement and expand on teaching their own system to our team.

Scheme & gameplan wise they have simply guessed wrong on what the opponent would do to start games. After a couple drives they adjust and we blow the doors off.

Kelly is simply trying to smoke out the haters on the Scoreboard in the first quarter.

There are many on this board who would rather root for Kelly and LSU to fail in order to support their argument vs. cheer for the Tigers and eat their crow.

Sounds like piss poor defensive game preparation to me.
But on the other hand, the defensive adjustments at halftime have been excellent, except for Tenn game.
We need to figure out how to stop this in our remaining games.....especially bama.

I think our DC is just fricking with everybody. He starts out vanilla to give the team a challenge and to figure out what the opposing offense does, then he puts the other team on House arrest. IF we had good special teams, we wouldn't even be talking about it. The offense started out awful and is getting better every week.

The offense has been clicking from the start since Tennessee. The slow start is on the defense. Maybe it’s a matter of getting past the first several plays their analysts have drawn up for them.

…and special teams have put us in a hole at the beginning. They seemed improved this game after that first screw up though.

You are correct in that our DBs are playing 10 yds off the los and wr at the snap. Way too easy.
LSU has always been a pressing defensive backfield, and in the second half we definitely close the gap we allowed in the first half. What I don't understand is why can't House look at the first half results and admit to himself that maybe he is doing something wrong, and correct it IN the first qtr.

This is the correct answer. Some people are over thinking it.

My guess is that x amount of the first half series are scripted.

We then abandon the script at the half

Said this before, but I thought Kellys post game was interesting - media asked about the adjustments and Kelly joked about it being secrets. But then he said something about trying to cover up our weaknesses early, then maybe realizing they aren't weaknesses and then adjusting to just letting them play fast.

What I took from that - sometimes we're being too analytical in creating the game plan and looking to figure out where the other team will try to exploit our weakness and trying to mitigate it. And we do better when we just let our guys do the thing they do best.

BK and the coaches like to come on here and read the threads from the first half for comedy reasons
