Spring Game Take

I know it's been a week, but here it is none-the-less.
Either the defense took their foot off the peddle in the second half, or we have a real problem with depth on defense. The defense was not creating any pressure in the second half, and they gave up huge yards on the ground.
Jaden Daniel's is not a good QB. He's a decent RB. He just missed so many wide open receivers. I'd be shocked if he was anything higher than 3rd string.
Nuss separated himself a little. He made a couple bone headed plays, but his overall performance was head and shoulders above Daniel's. I think he starts the season as second string behind Myles Brennan.
The offensive line was good. Not great, but much improved from the last 2 years. The coaching staff has started to build depth along the O-line. The 2nd and 3rd string O-line was far better than the 2nd and 3rd string d-line.
Miles Brennan is the starter. Without a bad snap, and some early suspect play calls, which weren't his doing, he had a very solid game. Nuss had the overall better game, but he is next years starter. Why put him in harms way right now? Start Brennan and continue to build the roster.
The running back room is wayyyy better than I envisioned. Even the walk on, Williams, played very well. Tre Bradford looked really quick and fast and strong.
LSU will win a couple games they shouldn't this year, but will likely lose a close game or two.

Kelly already said they they were only running one coverage and straight up pressure

I think (as of now) most agree that Nuss may have the edge in talent but may still be a little behind in trust and experience with the staff

Again, the OL was okay considering they didn’t have to protect against any stunts or creative pressure. My biggest takeaway was how much more in shape they looked (the entire team really)

And that’s before Cain gets to campus

Trying not to have my homer glasses on, but I think 9-3 would be a really good season. 8 wins is probably chalk

You can't start Nuss next year, or rather you shouldn't start Nuss next year.
He's a competitor. If you start him, he'll play like Joe Burrow did in 2018... all out. Which could lead to injury. Why put the future os LSU football at risk? You don't have a championship defense. You don't have depth at O-line. Why take that risk when the difference between him and Myles Brennan is so small.
Coach him up, and start him in 2023.

I would love a 9-3 season. Losses to A@M, Bama, and Arky.

And if Brennan gets hurt? What then, you can’t risk the future so who do you play? Nobody tanks in college football, there’s zero upside and Kelly wasn’t brought in to create a losing culture which is what this kind of thinking creates.

We damn sure shouldn’t lose to A&M. I think Bama is also beatable, hell they only beat us by 6 points last year with Max Johnson completing just 50% of his passes. We beat them with a more accurate QB. Arky will be a damn good team. Wouldn’t be surprised if they beat us, wouldn’t be surprised if we beat them. I think people are understandably being tempered in their expectations for this year, but I really think Kelly will have this team properly conditioned and ready for war. I haven’t been this excited to watch a team’s first game since we opened with Ga Southern in 2019. We have all the tools to be an outstanding football team.

You, clearly, are playing the short game.
If Brennan gets hurt, you play Daniel's. List Nuss as #2, let him know the plan, and play him in mop up duty. Generally speaking.
If you suddenly find yourself competing for a championship, then all bets are off. But starting Nuss against UF, Auburn, Alabama, A&M, and Arky, when you have a 6th year senior would just be moronic.
If you'd like to wager, I'm down.

Please tell me that this is an elaborate troll or something.

This has been covered ad naseum. The defense was playing base coverage. Pretty easy for the QBs to make their reads when nothing is being disguised.

That 2018 team was playing for a championship. They had talent everywhere. This 2022 team does not come close.
Maybe I should clarify what I meant, which is that he, Nuss, only has one gear, 9th gear. You can't let him hurt himself, because he prolly won't slide.
I'm just saying that it would be smart to play chess, not checkers with Nuss.

Loser mentality. No time is better than the present

None of these are a reason to not start him. If he gives you the best chance to win (and I’m not saying he does or doesn’t) then you start him. College football is a “win now” league. A lot different than the NFL. You only have guys for 2-3 years.

This is a horrible take

The coaching staff is not "going for the win" in an intrasquad game... It is called evaluating players. No need to leave the proven starters in the second half for those not being evaluated.
However, this team has a secondary problem in talent and depth at this time. They may gel better over the summer and fall camp

So your whole reasoning is bullshite, you just want Brennan to be the starter and invented this backwards logic to disqualify Nuss. Should’ve known something was up because nobody’s dumb enough to actually believe that’s a real strategy.

What if I told you that there's a 5-star insurance policy that just arrived on campus who will be primed and ready next year to take the ball if Nuss gets hurt?

Remember each QB played against the same defense all day long. What happens when defenses change up? Who can stay ahead of them mentally the best? That's for Coach Kelly to figure out this August.
