Andrew Stevenson hit .193 his freshman year in 119 at bats.

You don’t count sacs against OBP, Bay. So sac bunts and flies get taken out. Milazzos OBP is 0.316.
Only sacrifice bunts don’t count against OBP. Sacrifice flies do.

In Milazzo's defense, the first season was covid year, then his full season, and last season he was injured. I think we all know that Milazzo has a lot of growing to do offensively. However the catching position as a whole was so bad at LSU 2 years ago that he had to get thrown in the lineup by necessity knowing he wasn't ready. The options were Milazzo, Wyeth, Travinski (injured), and Braden Doughty. Not quite what you have this season. This year he won't be counted on alone. Neal and Milazzo will both play and contribute unless Milazzo shows he can't handle it.
No one has been saying that Milazzo is great offensively and the people that are saying he will play and knows what they are talking about doesn't mean he will start most games or all games like some people seem to think. Just saying that he will play and it will be a wait and see type of thing to see if he improved offensively. If he didn't and stays in that career .157, then he will undoubtedly have the spot taken by Neal. That isn't an argument. Just have to wait and see if he can get around that .220-.240 and also move runners over while also being really good defensively. If not then its Neal's job for the taking.

Grant Taylor just striking out 76% of his recorded outs. No big deal
And his walk-up music is Purple Haze...
Pound the zone, control your emotions (avoid the BB's), and bring that physical presence to the mound. He has closer written all over him.

your perceived value equals what national league pitchers used to do as hitters. They’ve implemented the DH for a reason, because no one wants to see that shite
Milazzo's value his his defense and ability to handle pitchers, not hitting. We all know that. Just like a pitcher's value is pitching and not hitting. I'm not sure why this is such a big argument. If there is a better catcher on roster, they will end up catching. If not then we'll be stuck with Milazzo. I'm just not sure what there is to argue about anymore.

He would still have to go 0-51 to get to .135

The starting lineup is way more than picking the guys with the nine best batting averages. It’s all about putting together a winning team.
The coach has to look at way more than just hitting.
Last season we saw what happens with a poor bottom of the batting order and what happened with a poor defensive catcher.
Hopefully this year we have a strong bottom of the order and a strong defensive catcher. But this may not be the case. We may have to give up some O to bring the D we need.
People should chill out. Our coach knows what he’s doing. We have weeks to go and then y’all can nut pick, but right now it’s just spring training.

There is not enough talk about Guidry in this thread.

I was thinking about this too. I know you went to fall scrimmages. Did he struggle this much at the plate then too?

Guidry and Pearson combined don't have as many hits as Alex Milazdanado.

Yes. He never looked comfortable at the plate. Lots of swings and misses. I attributed it to a freshman who’s being too aggressive trying to impress instead of letting the game come to him. I assumed he would figure it out because he’s so talented. I truly think it’s all mental for him.

The track record for Barbe standouts isn't great. I think he'll be fine, though. He's in the right hands.

From what I was told, he was very aggressive in the fall and now is taking a lot of strikes in the spring. May be something that Jay told him he needed to work on during the break into spring and now he is taking too many hittable pitches. I'm along the same thinking that it is a mental thing for him right now. Just needs to get some reps and confidence going.

He had a decent fall but I think you are seeing the affects of the pitching staff ramping up.
The better pitchers are dominating the innings & you are seeing an uptick in stuff from the fall. Guys like Little, Collins & Edwards are shoving it. Hurd is a full go now.
Even in Guidry’s case, he’s maintained a 15% BB rate between both sessions. That is really really good & a strong predictor gif future success. He sees the ball & understands the strike zone. He just has not adjusted to the speed of the game (34% K).

Will there be any scrimmages this weekend?
Posted on 2/7/23 at 9:16 am to Lester Earl
He’s at 53% in the spring. It’s not good. And you can’t make that excuse for guidry while not doing it for others or ignoring what Jones has done.

Yes, Jay said on Mahtook's show they will be the same times as opening weekend. 3 9 inning scrimmages this weekend.
