Wrong. Completely wrong. Like what the f*** are you saying? That the athletes at LSU aren't smart enough to learn his system of special teams tackling and coverage?? ??

I posted this in another thread, so sorry for being repetitive.
It’s possible that, with a new staff and limited practice time per college rules, the coaches shorted special teams practice to try to get a functioning offense and defense. If so, we should see special teams improvement as the year goes on. Then next season they should come to spring practice with a good foundation. It’s going to take a year cycle to get this team coached up.
Anyway, I doubt any of our coaches are bad. Kelly is too good to have poor assistants.

Ah well at least, while Ramos is not Tracy or York, looks like he is rounding into a dependable PK.

No offense to the player, but it is shocking that we have a freshman walk-on returning kicks with all the athletes on the team.

I sure have not seen a single hint of speed or elusiveness from any KR or PR we’ve used this season.

Hoping the media will ask Kelly some pointed questions regarding special teams.
Nobody asked anything after game presser. It's like everyone knows special teams is so bad but knows Kelly won't demote him because they are such good BBQ buddies

Kelly wanted recruiters at the non-coordinator spots, but we need to stash Polian somewhere else and get a great coach in there.
That’s not going to happen. Everyone needs to just accept it. Polian can’t be involved with any off-campus visits and can only have limited interactions with recruits on campus if he isn’t in an on-field role. He isn’t going to be moved to an analyst position, which would just make him a recruiting organizer. That’s not what he’s here for.
Kelly has already said he’s going to get more involved with special teams. They need to assign a GA and a few analysts to break down the film and help them fix the issues so Polian can focus on what he’s good at. We have a potential top 4 class on the hook, so he isn’t going anywhere.

Don’t worry Kelly said today he’s getting more involved with ST (i.e. he’s taking over)

On that last punt to us; I thought it could have hit one of our guys. It was a short punt. I actually think that’s what it was designed to do. Kick behind our guys running down and maybe hit one. I had to watch the replay to see if it did.
In all the traffic I’m hoping the returner thought the same thing and that’s why he jumped on it.
Otherwise that inexcusable.

Obviously we’re stuck this year.
Here’s what other programs are doing:
Georgia
Scott Cochran is special teams coordinator and is not one of the 10 “on field” assistant coaches. They also have a special teams quality control guy.
Alabama
Coleman Hutzler is both STC and OLB coach.
Texas A&M
No named special teams coordinator. Two special teams analysts.
Ohio State
Parker Fleming is a dedicated STC.
Michigan
Jay Harbaugh is STC and safeties coach.
Clemson
Mike Reed is assistant head coach, special teams coordinator, and cornerbacks coach.
Oklahoma
No named STC. One special teams analyst.
Arkansas
Scott Fountain is assistant head coach and special teams coordinator. He’s primarily a recruiter, though - he spent years as a recruiting coordinator/player personnel director at other programs. They also have a special teams analyst and a special teams GA.
The point being that there are a lot of different ways to skin this cat. Polian is going to remain in an “on-field” role for recruiting purposes. Long term the answer is probably to hire some analysts/GAs that can handle some of the practice/preparation duties. I don’t think Polian is going anywhere considering how well we are recruiting at the moment.

Calling Bobby April……calling Bobby April……need a clean up on aisle 5……it is a big mess…..April can right the special teams problem.

It was very refreshing to hear Kelly acknowledge not just the overall issues with Special Teams, but get into specifics we have mentioned on this board.
Then say Polian needs to do better and that he himself will get more involved.
We have a real fricking football coach people.

You can rest assured that behind closed doors BK lit a fire under Polians arse.
