According to this board, they salivate every year.

While I agree the kickoff length is a problem, just because someone kicked the ball in the endzone in high school does not mean they will be able to get it to even the 10 in college. First, there is a 10 yard difference between college and high school. Remember several years ago it was moved from the 35 to the former NFL length at the 30. Also in high school people tend to line drive the kicks which results in a good length but crappy hangtime. So in college when you put some height under the ball, it doesn't go as far. And stop with the female kicker, she isn't going to ever play and doesn't have a stronger leg then Alleman.

Let's burn Hairston's redshirt.

This...

He's got a leg like Nigel Gruff and also can punt if Wing can't get back.

To me, it's worth his redshirt if he can get the ball in the endzone on kickoffs.

Lets do some math. Alleman was kicking it at least 10 yards deep into the endzone in high school, allegedly. Now to the 15. Thats at least a 15 yard difference if you factor in where he kicks off from. A bit of a problem.

This is an issue we have to fix as soon as possible. I can't believe that LSU cannot field a kicker who can't consistently kick the ball at least inside the 10 yard line. I do think that this might bite us in the arse if we don't correct this problem.

It doesn't pay to give kickers and punters scholarships at all.

yeah but he added .002 of hangtime. So we can trip the returner at the 38 instead of a touchback. Sound logic.

Alleman has bene dealing with a sprained MCL that is not totally healed yet. He isn't going to kick a ball into the EZ until that thing is well.

I agree with the OP. I think it is mostly a talent issue at Kicker. we don't have a guy who can kick it far enough. Period. Punts will be fine if we get Wing back. If not, its going to be shank city.

I'm hoping we see Shepard returning kickoffs when he gets back but the blocking has to improve big time.

This is my only major complaint about the team right now. We are not good with kick offs at all.

I share the concerns on kickoffs that many have shared in this thread. I saw several questions asked but no answers as to injury status of Wing. Does anyone know his status and expected return date?

The title of this thread needs to be changed.

KO coverage is fine, Punt coverage is fine. Extra Points & Field Goals is fine.

What is not fine is Kick Off distance and punt distance.

Not all special teams is garbage.

you are correct.

Kicking = poor

Blocking = poor

punting = absolute garbage.Numerous kicks out of bounds and we can't pin anyone within the 10 yard line for the life of us.

Fieldgoal kicking = pretty good

Why would you say "pretty good" at field goals? He pretty much split every one and didn't miss any?
