The batter/runner is supposed to stay in the running lane (cannot place a foot on turf outside of the running lane) and then step in the bag.

What happened here is the batter/runner clearly has his entire foot 3-6 inches in fair territory, THEN stepped on the bag on his next step.

True, they do this all the time, and unless a play is being made on them from home it’s a non-issue bc there is nothing to call bc no play is coming from home.

In this case a play was being made from home, runner outside the running lane, thus interference all day long.

The fix to this is to teach runners to stay in the lane ALWAYS, so it’s a habit.

Rule needs to change then. The South Carolina catcher was literally REWARDED for pegging a player in the back. Seems like if they're going to be picky enough that "ThE pLaYeR's FoOt WaS 3 iNcHeS iNsIdE!" then it should matter where the ball hits the runner.

Or it should be a judgement call. Did the runner intentionally obstruct the throwing lane? No? Safe. Yes? Out.

If you run in a straight line from the right handed batter's box to the base, then you should not be called for obstruction.
