Our run defense is atrocious against any decent team and we haven’t been able to stop any team from scoring multiple TD’s.

USA is licking their choups for this LSU defense. They certainly smell blood in the water, and will give LSU hell for 4 quarters. Hopefully LSU pulls this out.

They beat OK state last year in Stillwater. They aren’t to be taken lightly. I’m surprised we’re favored by 20.5.

The HC from that game is now the DC at Alabama and they were ranked 120th out of 134 in returning production from last season. In other words, this isn't the same team that beat OSU last year.

That's not to say they haven't played well over the last two weeks. Of course, NW St. is awful. Nor that they won't be highly motivated. Their HC is a guy named Major Applewhite. People from BR have heard of him.

LSU is not good enough, particularly on defense, to just "show up" and win. But this isn't like Memphis rolling into FSU.

I'm always a little nervous playing a read-option team.

They will drop 3-4 TD’s on us unfortunately. Most will come in the first half.

Offense is so horrible in the first half. We can get turnovers but don’t capitalize enough. Burns is dogsh!t. Defense just can’t get it together until our opponents score multiple TDs.

LSU needs to get up by plenty by halftime so we can head out and catch the second half of the Georgia @ Alabama game.

We have struggled against every opponent. What makes you think we will run up the score? lol

Can’t believe I said that but that’s what has become of this team currently.

They’re about the same. South Alabama offense is a little better than UCLA’s but UCLA’s defense is a little better than theirs.

South Alabama is probably a better team than UCLA.

I mean South Alabama may have better coaching but at the end of the day, South Alabama has the talent of a Sun Belt program and UCLA has P5 level talent (even though they aren't necessarily a P5 program any longer).

For comparison, South Alabama is ranked at #94 in the 247 Team Talent Composite, that's among teams like Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, Tulsa, Louisiana-Lafeyette, and Western Michigan.

UCLA is at #29 among teams like Arkansas, Wisconsin, TCU, Utah, Mississippi State, Washington.

That's a drastically different level of talent on the field, UCLA has 25 four star players, South Alabama has 0.

Don't ignore that they also lost to North Texas and Ohio.

We should win by 16-20 points.

You talking about the South Alabama team that was beaten by North Texas by 14 at home and also lost to Ohio this year?!?!?! LOL!

Evidently their starting QB was out for those two games.

We all know USA doesn’t have the talent level, especially on the lines or depth, that we do. But they are well coached, especially on offense, and they have an identity. Teams like that are always dangerous if you let them hang around. We need the first half defensive effort we saw vs USCw in game one, not what we gotten in the last three games, to prevent that.

Baker is smart, but Bienemy got him pretty good in the first half. He expected us to be extremely aggressive and we were, and he hit us with screens and short passes on 3rd downs for big yardage. You can bet your arse that Applewhite will come out looking to do the same things Saturday and take advantage.

Baker did a good job of adjusting at half, and once that happened, the game was over. But he needs to have a little more balance out of the gate this week or we could be tied or in a close one at half again.

Before I get on Baker too much for the first half, he tried a pretty conservative gameplan vs Nichols and it didn’t work well at all, either. They took what we gave them all the way down the field in that first half. So it’s not like he’s doing the same thing every week. He just needs to find the sweet spot where this defense can be aggressive but still maintain some discipline.

We all know this defense’s ceiling is just average, but we need a gameplan that puts them in position to be that in the first quarter, not mid-way through the third.
