Saints had to bring in another guy to help McMahon out because he couldn't teach Lutz to elevate his kicks.

Not happy if this guy winds up running our ST's.

Maybe it was a deal to Sean that the Saints will finally start drafting some LSU boys. J/k

If we are gonna bring in nfl guys can we at least get them from a decent organization?

You say this as if college teams are going out and offering NFL special teams coaches more money to come coach for them.

I don't see how this hire can be a bad thing. Is he going to be more of a "consultant"? I am not saying he was the best ST coach in the NFL... He was on the bottom side of the average ST coach in the NFL, but I think he can bring more value to LSU's ST than what we had for the past several years.

I think Vince McMahon would be a better choice.

If Linda can head the Federal Small Business Administration, why not?

Spot On Adam, I'm afraid that O has a tendency to bring old friends along too often. Sure, it's pretty common in the profession, but too many friends is not a good thing. McMahon's record the last five years shows as a glaring fail. SP finally came to this conclusion and let his good friend go. Special teams is a young coaches position, especially if he can recruit. Why waste the position by putting an old timer in there who may not like being on the road and talking to 19yr. old kids. There must be 5,000 young coaches out there that would add more to the staff.

You people get too hung up on the titles these coaches carry.

Don't get me wrong - I know how it works for the most part, but somebody has to coach the position groups and coordinate the phases.

I'm not making that up.

Okay - is the possibility still open to bring Powell in as the 10th coach, then?

Or if not, are we, maybe, looking at Chad Lunsford? Was at Auburn (admin/recruiting) and did wonders with Georgia Southern's ST - is a Georgia guy and can help with recruiting in Georgia and Florida, IMHO.

The question we should be asking is "does he talk like us?". If yes, great hire.

Why do I get the feeling Coach O is trying to do a complete 360 of his Ole Miss days....he is getting too many people on his staff...hope it doesn't become a case of too many cooks!

There are SEC teams with over 20 consultants/analysts doing all sorts of scouting and helping with game planning. LSU is behind the curve on this. Glad to see we're finally catching up.

Saban has 1143 GAs, 73 shadow staff "analysts" and 14 coaches.

I did an internship with the Saints two years ago. I met coach Mac on the very first day. He was one of my favorite coaches on the staff. Had a very good relationship with his players. I think he will do a good job at LSU, not sure about recruiting though.
