yes

But, didn't everyone in the world, except maybe Les Miles know that he might let this team down because of his actions, even before he was signed? Les totally fricked up by counting on RP too much.

I've got to believe Miles agonized over the RP decision - knowing what was gonna likely play out this year with Hatch, Lee and Jefferson.

Kudos to the man that makes that call... that takes some serious character.

100% agree. We all can see now why RP was given a lot of rope. Miles knew better than any of us he didn't have a true SEC starting QB on the bench. His decision took guts.

JSU finished third in their division. RP didn't finish first in any category just within the division.
He was never going to be Heisman material.

YES, I would rather have a bad season than wind up on NCAA probation because of some punk who refuses (after NUMEROUS opportunities) to at least pretend to behave like a human until after graduation. See also Pacman Jones, Chris Henry.

YES, the season was not poor simply because RP was finally (and rightly) shown the door. The season was poor because of poor defensive scheme, poor personnel management, a universal wholesale lack of intensity, drive and hunger and an offense that refused to place a young QB in the best position to succeed (i.e. throwing on 1st down too often, generally being ineffective in run blocking and tough hard running, hundreds of dropped passes and instances of t-rexing passes,etc.).

Only two of our five losses can be directly attributed to QB play (Bama and Ole Miss). The others were definitely the fault of the defense.

As I've posted before, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY, given RP's track record, that he would have made it through the entire season without some off-the-field screwup which would have required disciplinary action, so we would have lost at least one of those two games anyway.

People on this board need to remember that RP could only muster 14 points against a very average Tennessee defense last year in the SEC title game. If not for two late game plays by the defense, LSU would have lost that one.

RP has million-dollar talent, but it's controlled by a ten-cent head. Yeah, it was tough at times this season, but in the long run, I believe LSU will be better off.

Yes! It's a no brainer to get rid of him.

We got hit by a perfect storm of star QB's not wanting to come here and sit on the bench, poor defensive coaching, and a tough schedule. That's it.

By the way I wonder how Dayne Christ is feeling right about now....

Unconditionally the right move.

Unfortunately the defense imploded simultaneously.

YES.

One consequence is we went 7-5 this season when we likely wouldn't have done worse than 9-3 with RP, prolly 10-2. That's of course assuming RP did't get kicked off the team, imprisoned, or murdered during the season.

But what about the other consequences? How about the fact that in the future, snot nosed punks like RP might decide they don't want Les Miles to be their coach. That's fine with me.

I think that this is the one decision by Miles that pretty much all fans support. It was a tough decision and other coaches may not have done the same thing. Long term he did our program a huge favor by getting rid of the cancer of RP. The guy had a tatoo of himself on his back holding the world in his hand - we don't need egomaniacs like that on our team.

Right move YES

The consequences are not all because of RP,
even though some would love to think so.

without doubt and given the nature of the saga..long overdue.

no..but, IMO, they were unavoidable. the lack of a cohesive offense is partialy responsible for the meltdown on defense. inexperience at qb and the resultant lack of execution forced LSU to be conservative and therefore more predictable. that put way too much pressure on an offensive line struggling with the workload and the considerable pressure of all the pre-season hype.

Is there some strange conflict between everyone saying what a tough but correct decision it must have been for Miles to finally cut bait with RP for the sake of disipline, and yet there is still a preponderance of opinion on here that Miles is lax on disipline and we're the next Miami?

With the troubles at QB, and some senior players ** cough D byrd* cough cough** feeling like their NFL prospects are being negativly affected, could that be as much a cause of the lack of upper classmen leadership and Miles' ability to not "loose the team"? Just wondering. Team leadership comes a lot from your top-year guys, and maybe Miles led those horses to the water, but they just wouldn't drink?
