re: New DC=twice as many fans at Peach Bowl

You really think we could destroy Ga Tech in the Peach bowl? A team that runs an offense that demands discipline on defense to stop? Sorry - I have zero faith that the existing defensive staff can get this done.
Not as bad as we destroyed Miami. The score will be like 51-31. Yes the defense will perform pitifully. I think JJ, LaFell, and Williams are going to whop some arse though.

My Uncle's step-father's brother-in-law who has a friend that works in TAF says that Mike Archer is a slam dunk for the job.

If they hire a new DC they aren't going to use him for the bowl game, that would be utterly ridiculous. If there's one thing Miles can do right its take all the lessons he's learned throughout the season and digest them in 4 weeks to the point that he is able to obliterate bowl opponents. Changing DC's at this moment would change the defense - its too late to learn a new DC's way of doing things
I don't care who we play in the bowl game. Mark my word - we'll destroy them.

No. If he was in the Big 10 he'd be coaching Michigan, which means he would have lost to Ohio State.

I think Texas got screwed IMO. Head-to-head matchup. Enough said.
So Texas should go because they're one loss is to a worse team than OU's one loss? That don't make sense either.

What does any of this have to do with anything? Do you really think that a conference is going to make rules for deciding tie-breakers that has anything to do with what you just said? 3 way tie-breakers are tricky, especially when you're talking about having only 1 loss. Look into the 3 way tie-breakers that the NFL uses.
The difference is that the NFL virtually guarantees that any team capable of winning the playoffs gets into it. Hasn't a wildcard only won the SuperBowl once in history?
Their problem is they take too many teams. 12 out of 32. That would be lot the NCAA taking 45 teams (out of 120) for the Div IA playoff. Heck, LSU would make it this year with those numbers! (Ok, maybe not).
I think 4 is a minimum and 8 is a maximum. We don't want to go overboard - and the problem is, the slope is slippery. Div IAA started with a 4 team playoff, then they went to 8, then 12, then 16, and now in 2010 they are slated to have a 20 team playoff. Div III has a 32 team playoff. Absurd.
I actually think 6 might be the right number. It rewards the #1 and #2 teams with a first round bye - a huge advantage in a 3 round playoff!
How to break ties - on the field of play
Posted by HusseinTiger on 12/1/08 at 11:24 am
I think this is called a "Kansas City tiebreaker" ??
Basically, the two tied teams get together and play overtime rounds until one team wins.
With three teams you could just have each team play one round against each of the two other teams. If at the conclusion of that first one, one team has totalled more points than the other two - tiebreaker is over. If two teams are tied and have more points than the third, then do a tiebreaker with the two teams.
Example of one round:
Team A plays offense against team B and scores 7
Team C plays offense against team A and scores 7
Team B plays offense against team A and scores 0
Team C plays offense against team B and scores 3
Team A plays offense against team C and scores 3
Team B plays offense against team C and scores 3
So A has 10, B has 3, and C has 10. B is eliminated, and A and C play OT rounds till one wins.
It sounds silly but I don't think its any sillier than the ridiculous tie-breakers that are used. Anything past head-to-head is just arbitrary BS. A tiebreaker like this would settle it on the field of play without having to play a full game, and it would make for an excited 15 minutes of football

Of course. In fact if Mizzou beats OU, then Texas DEFINITELY goes to the NC game
Yep. It would make so much more sense to have OU play Texas and Bammer play Florida - that would be a perfect 4 team playoff.
Though I think maybe 8 teams makes more sense. Take Utah. They're in a crap conference but they have beaten 2 top 25 teams.

Not as crazy as you think. If Florida beats Bama, Texas probably stays above Florida in the computers. Its a solid 3 spot lead right now, which will dwindle some with a big win over Bama, but how much? Can Utah and TT maintain a bit of a wedge between the two? Maybe. Best case scenario for Texas (other than an Mizzou upset) would be the human polls to look like:
I would disagree. Florida's beating Bama will add a very tough win to their schedule in a week when Texas doesn't even play.

, an ugly win by Florida (how is a win over a #1 team ugly?),
Heck - our win over UT was "ugly" last year. We were on track to lose 14-13 when Zenon (sp?) got that pic-6 (pic-8?)

I'm sure the Big 12 North would be cool wit that. In fact, we should be just like USC and change the rules of the game in the middle of the game every year.
re: Sound off: Was dumping Perilloux the right move?
Posted by HusseinTiger on 12/1/08 at 10:51 am to Dalosaqy
I think that this is the one decision by Miles that pretty much all fans support. It was a tough decision and other coaches may not have done the same thing. Long term he did our program a huge favor by getting rid of the cancer of RP. The guy had a tatoo of himself on his back holding the world in his hand - we don't need egomaniacs like that on our team.

1- Right move? (yes or no)
YES

2- Are you ok with the consequences of the move?
YES.
One consequence is we went 7-5 this season when we likely wouldn't have done worse than 9-3 with RP, prolly 10-2. That's of course assuming RP did't get kicked off the team, imprisoned, or murdered during the season.
But what about the other consequences? How about the fact that in the future, snot nosed punks like RP might decide they don't want Les Miles to be their coach. That's fine with me.

BECAUSE HE WASN'T READY TO PLAY

Of course I'd pull for Bama.
My ultimate dream is that Bama wins an NC and then Saban leaves them the next year or the year after - preferably announcing on Christmas Day - and preferably for Auburn or Tennessee because that would piss the Gumps of alot

An obvious reflection of the number of "near pick-6's" J Lee through - interceptions that result in the opponent taking possession in the red zone.
