I don't remember Matt Flynn as being a big runner.

I think the Clemson game will be tough....and if it is, we will have another decent season.

Who was the most immobile QB you've ever seen at LSU?

Mett?

Mauck’s legs won us the 2001 sec champ game.

Then he broke his leg in 2002 and became a pocket QB in 2003

Yeah, Matt Mauck and his 97 yards on 79 carries for the season was monumental.

Add sack yardage to that

He looks to be in a lot better shape. I hope he’s worked on his agility this offseason but he just needs to be able to step up in the pocket and work on ball security to be elite.

Nuss is actually very good at moving around in the pocket. His only real issues were not taking off when he could and/or forcing throws instead of eating it or throwing it away. But he actually moves around in the pocket better than most QBs and is great at throwing balls from multiple arm slots and on the run.

It is amazing how many people don't understand the difference between mobile and fast. Dan Marino, Peyton Manning ,and Drew Brees each had elite mobility. Robert Griffin III had elite speed. Burrow has both (maybe not elite speed, but enough).
Nuss has good mobility. His unwillingness to take off is not because he isn't athlete; It is because he believes he can make the throw every play. Compare that to Daniels who was very much the opposite. He was often ready to run after two checks, especially in his first year at LSU. Once he started to trust his receivers and stay put for that third check, he went to another level with his passing.

Sure, but Joe also ran 115 times vs Nuss' 34 times.

He needs to run more.
Yep. I got downvoted a billion times over last season saying Nuss needed to run more. Truth is, he could have extended drives had he run. Fans who are good with he did last season with his legs are fools. -38 yards rushing. LSU won win a natty if he has a repeat in 25.

Mauck and Flynn were MUCH more mobile and willing to run than Nuss IMO. That said, this thread is fricking dumb.

Nuss has more arm talent than Mauck and Flynn. He has more arm strength than Burrow, but not the accuracy.

How do we overcome Nuss being unwilling to scramble? Not just a little either, he will need to have some planned and effective run plays.

This has to be one of the dumbest fricking post I have ever read on this board. You are possibly up there as the dumbest fricking poster to ever post on this board.

Remember when not that long ago our fans complained about having dual threats and said pocket passers were the qbs to win championships?

Granted this was in the Miles eras, which boasted some bad qb play and coaching.

Yeahhh, I gotta disagree

Flynn ran for 345 yards over 4 years, his last year he had 215 of those and averaged 2.2 per carry

Mauk ran for 345 yards over his career

Burrow ran for 820 yards….

But he specifically said “set of wheels” which neither of them had. They were not overly athletic or fast, even thought I agreed they could scramble in a pinch and weren’t afraid to get hit. I think you’re missing the point I was proving to OP.

ask yourself...if you were the HC or OC, would you tell Nuss to just take off any chance he could? Do you realized what LSU had as a backup last year. If Nuss goes down with a simple ankle strain or pinched shoulder or strained knee, LSU wouldn't have won another game last season.
This was an obvious coaching decision, and even in the bowl game, Nuss ran more.....why, because he had all off season to heal.
Of course, Nuss can run and he will run much more this year, most likely...because LSU has a good backup. It is as simple as that and has nothing to do with Nuss being fearful or slow.

I didn't miss your point, I was trying to show you that I think you missed the OP's point. You have your definition of "set of wheels", but most people don't interpret that (or at least they shouldn't, in my opinion) to mean that they are super fast. It just means an ability to run, which both did quite a bit. They weren't home run threats, but they frequently made plays with their legs, which seems to be the point the OP was making about them.

I don't think it is absolutely necessary that every team must have a running threat at QB, but if LSU's line struggles, which a lot of observers during the spring said they did, Nuss is going to need to be a more willing runner to keep drives alive.
