Coaching professionals and developing college athletes are very different. That said LSU's development of hitters are backed up by the numbers. They arent very good.

But todays loss was literally bad play in very aspect of the game. Bad hitting (minus the grand slam), defensive errors and mediocre pitching.

This was a bad game to let slip through our fingers.

3-2 here would be a success. 2-3 would be about breaking even if we are competitive.

Glad we have flashed some power so far this season, but six runs on three hits? Ridiculous.

Score is deceiving. We basically got dominated by a bad notre dame team. I think you can kiss any chance of being ranked the rest of the season goodbye. They’ll have their moments and might win some games they’re not supposed to like yesterday but it’s the same issues. Inconsistent pitching and practically no hitting.

If you would have told me LSU was going to score 6 runs and have Sunseri in the circle against a bad Notre Dame team, I would have bet the house they would have won. Shows you how little I know. LOL!

That’s pretty extreme. Coming into this weekend everyone was thinking if we can win 3 games we would have a good weekend, still possible. They beat a very strong OSU team yesterday and play a highly ranked Michigan team next. If we beat Michigan and Texas Tech I think we will still be ranked after this weekend. Not sure if we will score against Michigan pitchers, we will see.

Sunseri looked like crap, maybe that’s why she hasn’t gone against a strong team yet. I believe Beth should have put Wick or the freshman in, they both have been serviceable this year and Sunseri was having a very rough day. To me, Wick looks improved over last year, Washington is a powerhouse team and Wick got the call over Sunseri which I didn’t understand ….. until now, I guess

This team can't hit very well and the pitching is suspect! Hope they improve as the experience of the season kicks in???

Really not seeing any improvement in the program. We don’t seem to be able to recruit consistent hitters and we haven’t had any shutdown pitchers since Walljasper. Was hoping for an upgrade at catcher too. It looks like we’ll be a 2nd tier team in the conference yet again.

Unfortunately we are getting worse every year.
I cannot believe this is the same team that had such great players as Bell,Landry, Jahquish, Andrews, Hoover, Walljasper..
I think it might be time for a change..

This year will be rough. dominant pitching is gone and no consistent hitting. A lot of pop ups.

Time to get a Mulkey hire for softball. Wonder if Lisa Fernandez would bite?

Fernandez is nowhere near a Mulkey-Woodward type hire.

Woodward would swing for the fences and try to land an established championship-winning head coach from a top program.

The quality has definitely eroded over the last few years, in all three phases. If she can’t get something done with next year’s freshmen phenoms coming aboard then Woodward needs to look fo a replacement.
I don't follow College Softball, outside of LSU.

So, for the few on here that do, who are the current "Kim Mulkey" type HC's of the sport?

I don't like "Mediocrity" in ANY LSU sport and softball has definitely fallen into that category.

With LSU's Resources and Facilities, every ULSU program should be Top Ten.

We know SW is looking with eyes wide open..........

I could see Woodward making Gasso at Oklahoma say “no” at least three times.

She’s not an Oklahoma alum so might be up to a new challenge with a huge contract. The UCLA coach is a Bruin alum so she won’t be leaving Westwood.

But these are the type of hires Woodward would be looking to make.

I do not see Gasso leaving unless the WCWS site moves from OKC. It's in her backyard and she is coming to the SEC to prove her program even more.

We had the Alabama coach on the podium accepting the position several years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t see LSU pulling a top coach because they’ve all won championships at their schools. He’ll have to go get an assistant. Plus she just signed a contract extension until 2026. I think we are stuck with her.

Some of y'all are out of your minds.

Why would Gasso leave OU? She is paid ridiculously well and her team is coming into the SEC.

Frenandez? UCLA is her alma mater, they honestly have a massive recruiting advantage with the pipeline in California and the surrounding states.

Mulkey it at least made sense coming back as she spent her entire childhood and college career in Louisiana. Family and friends right down the road from LSU. Plus LSU put in the massive investment to match everything she had in Baylor.

Gasso going to LSU. That's a stretch.

Softball is not volleyball or swimming where the program is a wreck and you hire an assistant with potential. This is a top program that needs to make it to OKC at least half the time. The program has gotten stale from the top down; a la baseball under Mainieri.

I’ll bet the farm that Woodward will swing for the fences. If he doesn’t hit a grand slam with someone like Gasso, he’ll hit a solo home run and land an established and championship-level head coach.

He’s NOT hiring an assistant who has never been a head coach. That’s what Fernandez is and she’s 50 on top of that.

Woodward will get at LEAST a Jay Johnson-type hire. You folks are dreaming if you think SW will settle for an unproven assistant who has never been a head coach.
