Looks like Beth has lost one of the star freshmen to the longhorns

She didn’t play all that much. So, I’m not sure she was a “star,” but she probably had some potential.

She is from out that way, too. Maybe she wanted to go home?

I wouldn’t go that far but if Beth doesn’t get her shite together, that job will be the next up for Woodard to work his magic on. She has had plenty of time to get it done. It looked very promising for a while but things have seem to really be just average or even decline while other SEC schools have flew past us.

I’ll give Beth credit in that this off-season, she has been working the portal hard. She picked up an All-Big Ten catcher in Hannah Carson.

Hannah Carson

Of course, that raises a question. I thought incoming freshman catcher Maci Bergeron was supposed to be plug-and-play and start from day one. Is Bergeron now projected to back up Carson? I can’t see Carson coming here to sit the bench as a fifth-year senior.

I still say: Beth needs to shite can Leftwich and Dobson. She’s going to ride with them until they cost her her job.

It would be dumb to place the hands of your team next year on true freshmen. Most don’t produce the way you hope year one, it’s a major adjustment.

One of the top recruits in the country this past class who played at Washington batted in the low .200s. I hope our freshmen do well but it isn’t a guarantee either. She knows it’s a critical year after this past season

Karli Petty from OKST.

Good get.

I assume Petty will start at second base. Carson and Petty may not be super high impact, but two solid additions.

*** Sorry. Old news. Edited out the link. Looks like she committed a month ago and I guess officially signed today.

But yes, I think Scott will be watching the softball program closely this spring. Anything short of making OKC and there’s a good chance Beth is on mighty shaky ground.

This upcoming season will be her freshman year at LSU.

She closed out her high school career with a fourth straight state championship.

Definitely those two transfer signings are welcome and signal that Torina is aware that changes have to be made. Catcher and second base were two positions with the most shortcomings IMO.
Unfortunately she hasn’t made any changes in her coaching staff and they are needed. Keeping these two coaches will most likely be an unfortunate decision for our chances next year.

I dont know if I'd say she was hitting the portal hard but she did pick up 2 that will hopefully be able to contribute right away. I just hope they bring big and consistent bats!!
I did see that Brandon joined the Longhorns. Hope she finds a spot there. Her bat is certainly good enough. I also saw that Smith moved over to the Big 10 at Rutgers. Was a little surprised by that because by all accounts she went to that gulf coast summer league and lit it up. #1 in RBIs and top ten ERA. But, when I read her reasons for joining it made more sense. Hope she's found her new softball home.

Beth needed to thin the numbers down a little bit and all of the players that were in the portal from last year got very little playing time. Baylea Brandon was a nice young player but did not have a position here and went on to find more playing time.

Leftwich and Dobson are the hitting coaches, hitting wasn't the problem last year, pitching and defense was.

We have solidified the defense by bringing in the two transfers, and Bergeron will help too.

There are three star pitchers coming in this recruiting class too, so pitching depth will be helped tremendously.

Redoutey and Chaffin should make a good jump from Freshman to Sophomore year, plus all of last years Sophomores are older and more experienced.

This team is no longer young and inexperienced, its time for them to shine, it should be a good year.
