Why try to redshirt him now?

The same reason you were going to redshirt him last week. Get him stronger and have him for an extra year after Burrow leaves. That part hasn't changed.

Play him early in 2 OOC games and then save him for the last 2 games and give him 1 series in each half or more depending on the game is going.

If Burrow is the "guy" for the next 2 years it's best to RS Brennan this year if at all possible.

you know... I'm changing my answer to this.

Not playing QBs for meaningful snaps when they could, early, for backup AND future development purposes was something I criticized Miles for heavily. 2011 Mett is a good example, because he struggled in 2012 and set records in 2013... what might have been in 2012.

What I suggested is exactly that. So y'all have convinced me: to hell with the redshirt, play Brennan every chance you get.

To add to that his weight means nothing as far as playing time considering he's exhibited plenty of arm strength as the skinniest of white boys. It is a non-factor as far as ability. Durability is another story... but we are talking a backup role here.

Having someone ready to play now trumps putting weight on Brennan. He’s our only option after Burrow.

I think we can all agree, if Brennan is needed (Burrow struggle or injury), so be it and to hell with the redshirt in 2018. As you said, We can try again next year.

But under NO circumstances should we put Brennan in for merely a couple of plays to run out the clock while he’s under the 4 game limit... that would be silly.

If we do play him against the cupcakes, get him in there to get some valuable work, not just the final series or final few plays of the game.

You save Brennan until the last 4 games of the season. You don't want him to play a couple snaps here or there and it come back to bite you in the arse.

If burrow is still here next year then he can get his reps in then. It's not a priority to get him playing time this year. So just treat him like an old school redshirt until the last 4 games or until you have to use him. Whatever comes first.

It's not like he's never taken college snaps before. You don't potentially burn his redshirt in fricking garbage time
