So with the new redshirt rule, Brennan can play in 4 games without burning it...

I guess we hope to blowout SELA, La Tech, and Rice and get him a full quarter of play in each.

Then hopefully we are up big on at least 1 SEC team and let him try to lead some drives in the 4th quarter against a conference foe?

That's how I read the rule - hopefully they can get him some decent time and gain valuable exp in the process. Add another year of weight and we'll be good

Bring in Sale kid in non conference blowouts. That way you have Brennan for extended time in SEC games if needed.

No to the conference foe. If Burrow is our QB, why would we throw in Brennan in a competitive game in conference? Yes Brennan can play in 4 games, and I would expect him to get some PT in the blowout games.

??

Say we are up 24 with 5 minutes left against Ole Miss. You wouldn't let him go out there and try to lead a drive to get him some SEC experience?

You’re right. That would be crucial.

If Burrow gets hurt, Brennan isn't redshirting anyway. We can't just not play him all year in case Burrow is hurt in the last month of the year.

I would 100% let him do that. You have to look at what I said. Why would we put him out there when it’s a tight and competitive game. You quoted excactly what I said. I agree we should let him play, all I said was to not put him in the game when it’s a close game, not to give him playing time. I fully expect him to get playing time.

Because you said this first:

You’re right. My bad. Yes I would let him play in some garbage time. Just not expecting him to go in, in a competitive game.

I would not play Brennan until the last sec game, that way if burrows gets hurt, we have still have a qb for SEC championship, semi, and NC. Yes, I have already started drinking for the day.lol

So what happens if you burn his four games with mop up time and you get to the Texas a&m game and burrow gets knocked out for a few series?

Bad idea to burn up his 4 games with meaningless snaps just in case you need him later.

Problem is, Coach O will be in charge of these decisions.

I like the optimism. That is a fair point to if it came down to that, and we were playing in those high level games.

yep. you can't chance the cupcakes early just in case Burrow goes down.

Mr. Brennan- SEC and bowl games for you only if things go to plan. This is where his rubber, however thin, meets the road.

You burn his damn red shirt. If Burrow comes back, we can try again the following year to redshirt him, if Burrow goes pro we've got 2 years of Brennan.

You have to get him some PT.

This has been my question since the other 2 left. Do you try to get Brennan reps early on in the blowouts or do you save him in case Burrow gets injured later on in the season so he can still redshirt?

I still think get him PT early and often against cupcakes that we hopefully blow out.

We can't operate under the fear that Burrow gets hurt later on. If that happens, we play Brennan, burn his redshirt and thankfully he'll have some game experience from earlier in the year.

Why try to redshirt him now? He’s unquestionably the next in line. Play him whenever possible

If Burrow goes down late, we'll want Brennan to have gotten some experience in games this year before he goes against SEC defenses.
