Don’t shoot the messenger but be ready for an option where athletes can be basically employees and not be required to go to school but have deferred education to come back and study at a time of their choosing.

I think this would actually be good. The athletes spend so much time on football that it is difficult to focus on their education. Plus, they might allow that deferred education to be used by another member of the athlete's family (or a friend). There are some very intelligent athletes out there, but there are also some at the other end of the spectrum. For some players a college education is a waste.

This is companies with marketing budgets that are doing this

That's what it is supposed to be, but I'm not sure that's true. It seems a fair amount of it is coming from wealthy donors that have money to burn and want their team to win. They don't really care if they get a marketing return on their investment.

Not sure what you are asking. I’m not doing anything. I buy tickets and watch the games on TV, which generates money for the athletic department. My whole point is that the athletic department should be paying the players just like it works in every other sport. Instead we have a handful of wealthy boosters sending the money, and God bless them for doing it. I want my team to win, so I’m not criticizing. I personally don’t have that sort of money. My point is that the entire setup is unlike any other sport that I can think of.
fair enough answer, I honestly don’t think athletic departments anywhere pay for players

What should happen is that the student athletes getting paid with TV money proportional to the revenue the sport brings in. The team would decide how to spend it.

Yes, that’s how it should function. I’m guessing Title IX is the reason we don’t have that model.

I don’t know how that works. Explain it to me, please. I struggle to understand why anyone would pay athletes on a recurring basis but not share in the revenues associated with their performance.

The athletic dept is not paying the players. It’s corporations with marketing budgets that allocate that budget for these campaigns.

I'm not sure about this. In the past few weeks, my Twitter timeline has become flooded with players marketing NFTs to their followers.

It sure seems like there's an expectation among some players for fans to start funding this stuff.

Anyone thinks that these kids are getting equal value from their education vs what the school is making off of them are lost

you think any employee anywhere is getting equal value to what their employers make off of them?

or better yet, what about the college sports that lose money….should those kids pay the school to offset the loss?

Yeah... no. Sounds good in a vacuum, but that's a whole other issue entirely.

If it's JUST TV revenue, then it becomes a network battle. The P5 will disappear, it will be SEC/ESPN vs Notre Dame/NBC for the national title, annually. NBC can push, because they're not splitting it a zillion ways, just with the Irish. ESPN will crunch numbers, and come to realize they don't need to pay other conferences as much (or at all), and zone in on JUST the SEC.

At least this way, the local boosters (who actually donate and support the local school usually), give most large programs a fighting chance to compete.

And where does the $ from TV come from? Advertising which is paid for with increased prices to ALL consumers for products and services. That 10% + advertising and marketing budget + staff isn’t free.

I’ll say it again
If they don’t get a handle on this they are going to destroy their own sport
When you have teams like bama and Texas schools that are going to go all out and some schools will decide to not play at all or form their own league
Also at some point the fans will go away and spend their money elsewhere
Let’s see them play in front of empty stadiums

C'mon, you Don't want to get into "adopt a player" program. You too for pennies a day can sponsor a fledgling player making his way through the world of college football. Will even send you a brochure with his picture and personal history.
