They are not the best but Devin White and Kevin Minter need to be in the conversation.

Michael Brooks

Patrick Peterson. He thoroughly dominated everyone he matched up against.

No Brady James? They named the damn defense after him that year for Christ sake. Lol

Great suggestion. I forgot about him.
Brooks, Peterson, Mathieu and Dorsey were dominant.

Greatest season by a defensive player is Mathieu without question, if you include special teams it’s not close.
Greatest career is harder to gauge. I tend to overvalue team success in these decisions so I would go with Dorsey over Casanova because Dorsey’s defense won a National Championship.

It's Mathieu. His 1 year of greatness was perhaps the greatest by a defensive player/ST in history. It was much better than Woodson's "blue blood" media driven Heisman year.
Unpopular thought of the thread, Peterson doesn't belong in the top 4. He was great and such a special, special physical talent(maybe the best pure talent in our history)but his actual productivity and impact is vastly overrated based on his time here. At least 2(Claiborne, White), maybe 3(Greedy) had better careers and single seasons since him.

I’ve got you by a decade and saw a few more great players.
For a career? It is Casanova.
For the short time he played? Mathieu and it isn’t close.
True dat - me too.
Casanova was the greatest player of his age - should have been Heisman winner.
IF HoneyBadger could have played another year or two, he'd no doubt have eclipsed all others.
will never know - but If I had to look forward to a critical game with one of them in his prime, I think I might go with the HoneyBadger.
Body of work and impact on the game in his day, I think consensus would be Casanova.

TM or Devin White IMO. DW was dominant in every game it seems.

Everybody knows the best defensive player in LSU history is Ryan Terry Clark.
If you don’t believe that, then you’re racist. And if you don’t think you’re racist, ask Ryan.

Best Season - TM
Best career (most decorated) - Dorsey
My favorite - Casanova (superior to his peers)

I think people are forgetting Mathieu's freshman season. He was making plays that season too.
