To say that LSU dictates the "day" in this case means one day is Thanksgiving, and the other day is Saturday/Friday.

I understand, but Friday is not Saturday. So that means LSU has either not had the ability to force games on Saturday or they have agreed to put them on Friday.

Look at it this way. In 2009 and 2010, CBS dictated that the Iron Bowl be played on that Friday. Bama and Auburn raised holy Hell about it, and viola, their game was moved back to Saturday. LSU has either never complained, or their complaints don't mean as much.

That weekend every year, you have FSU/FL, UGA/GaTech & UCSe/Clemson, at least one of which is an SEC home game and thus eligible for the CBS game. The Iron Bowl is also eligible for a CBS game. It would be small potatoes for the SEC to agree to put aTm@LSU in the Saturday night slot. But we can't even get that small bone thrown our way.

Just wait until a rent-a-win game just has to be moved to the 11am SECN slot. I can hear it now from the conference; "we tried and tried, but the only slot left for the McNeese@LSU game was 11am." You think the crowds are bad now.

This is the issue. As much as ballcaster wants to ad hom us, calling gentle Chopique a "woman," he is ignoring the central issue here. LSU has a tradition of playing on Saturday nights at home. We are told that this cannot be because of TV contracts. aTm has a tradition of playing on Thanksgiving day, yet no one seems to care about TV contracts here.

The SEC gets to tell the network what day of the week a game will be. The SEC (and LSU) allowed the 2014 game to be on Thursday, and the SEC (and A&M) allowed the 2015 game to be on Saturday. Once the dates are set, the networks' contracts become important. ESPN will be broadcasting SEC games Thanksgiving Thursday, and will probably pick the night slot for the 2014 game.

I believe ultimately Arkansas and Missouri will play in that slot, with the Iron Bowl getting the CBS prime time slot of 2:30 Saturday.
I would be willing to bet that this happens at least 2/3 of the time, and LSU fans are willfully ignoring this.

For whatever reasons, we could count on LSU and Arkansas playing on Friday every year (two exceptions in 20+ years iirc). Going forward, don't be surprised to see Arkansas and Missouri playing on Friday more often than not. That's one more Saturday home SEC game every two years since we'll rarely, if ever, see LSU play on Friday. CBS will always hope to have the iron bowl mid-Sat, and I can't blame them. The Gulf War will almost always be a better game than the Egg Bowl and the Square Dance, so more often than not, we'll get the prime time slot. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT.

Thanks!

As far as LSU home game getting moved from Saturday to Friday... I don't know if that's something CBS dictates to the SEC, or SEC dictates to LSU.

Would be really nice to see the full text of the CBS television contract to find out...

I wouldn't have made fun of you if your only point was that it would be nice had Alleva been more aggressive on this front.

I'm making fun of a group of men telling me that LSU's athletic director ruined their Thanksgiving.

Well, read what I said again. I basically said that I wish he would have fought harder, while also just being upset with the situation. I never said anything about what he could do about it now, which is when you and others keep repeating about the TV schedule.

Point being, he shouldnt have ever agreed to it, but if he weren't given the chance to say anything, then we were bullied by the SEC. This is my opinion of course.

Then I stand corrected. The fact that you're even entertaining this as a realistic occurrence is far worse than if you were to blame Alleva for ruining Thanksgiving.

What I said was he either agreed, which I don't think he should have, if this is indeed the case, or he wasn't given the chance to disagree.

This is pretty objective dude, I don't see how you can disagree.

I think Arkansas really liked having the game on Friday, so instead of having two parties that bitched about it in Auburn and Bama, it was reduced to maybe one that wasn't putting up much of a fight in LSU.

How true is this? In the past, the LSU schedule always had the LSU/Arkansas game listed on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (as it is listed with he LSU/aTm game for 2015), and right before the season would begin, the date would be changed to Friday.

Red baron says that the SEC chooses the day of the game in that post, but later he says:

The SEC determines whether the game will be on Thursday or on the weekend (Friday or Saturday). If it's on Thursday, CBS has no say because they have a T'giving NFL game to broadcast. If it's on the weekend, then CBS can decide when they want to broadcast it per their contract with the SEC.

That makes more sense.

I don't mind that LSU will play on Thanksgiving.. gives me an excuse to avoid my family.

I just do not like the Friday game. Never have. Most of the civilized world has to work that day. So not only am I dealing with a turkey hang over, i have to take a day off of work to sit in a 3/4 full stadium filled with people with turkey hangovers. They should have called that game the Lethargic Bowl.

I think you're on the right tract, but, technically, I think the thing that keeps CBS from televising the game on Thursday night is the SEC contract which gives CBS only one primetime opportunity. CBS will only have one NFL game, and this year, that's going to be the 11:30 a.m. slot. I think it's possible that, at some point, CBS might want to televise an A&M/LSU game from College Station in the daytime as part of double header with its NFL Thanksgiving game, if the SEC TV contract would permit this (don't know the answer to that--might have to give up the Saturday game that week if they did that, so it would require A&M/LSU to look like a much bigger matchup than the Iron Bowl going into the season in order for that to happen).

One thing to keep in mind is that the NFL is tweaking how it does Thanksgiving--each of the three broadcast networks that have NFL games will have a Thanksgiving game (CBS, Fox, NBC) and they will ignore the conference rights issues going forward (this year's Thanksgiving lineup is all NFC, which would normally shut CBS out).

I ALREADY HATE the Thanksgiving option, but if it is day time, I will be seriously pissed.
