Getting a new QB? Sometimes I hate this place. Yes, I realize I am part of the problem here because I point out how corrupt the SEC is.

Ripping on players, however, annoys the frick out of me.

Yes, JD missed a lot of plays this year. However, without him, we don't win more than 5 games. The sample size of Nuss for two quarters (most of that against backups) means shite, honestly.

So, what makes everyone here think Daniels won't improve in the areas he is lacking? Daniels had a better season than Burrow did in 2018. Burrow made a nice leap in 2019. Daniels also obviously improved just from last year at ASU.

Why couldn't Daniels make that leap? I bet he could. I hope he comes back. Can't wait to see the improvement.

People don't realize that JD didn't that JD doesn't turn the ball over. Minimizing mistakes and giving defenses extra layers of preparation with his legs won us a lot of games.

Nuss has far more upside, and maybe Howard also (no film). But JD let us play Les-Miles lite football this year for a potential 10 win season Year 1.

Nuss would have gotten us into more shootouts.

JDs biggest problem is that he can throw for 200 in a half (Injured) against UGA, but only find 80 passing yards against auburn and Arkansas.

Yes. People still think Matt Flynn was better than JR and posted about it during 2006 (even with the MSU game, )

Backup QB syndrome.

The funny thing is, you go from Daniels to Nuss or Howard next year, you are taking a step back and everyone will really see the issues with the roster. Because while they go through growing pains, everything will take a step back. Then this place will really lose its marbles

JD's legs also basically created our running game.

The only reason we did anything of note on the ground was the threat of JD's running (and the occasional Emery superman play)

Unless we get major upgrades at IOL and RB, we won't be able to run for shite next year without JD

Flynn won and championship and threw for 6 TD's in an NFL game.

Skill sets don't always make the offense run better.

Burrow had never started before. Daniels has. I still think he can improve year on year but the QB competition should certainly be open heading into the spring. Check the portal for options as well too.

The two things this board is insanely obsessed with:

1. The backup QB
2. What jersey number kids wear

Ya, that too. Clock strikes midnight and Josh Williams losses his glass slipper.

Daniels was the MVP for LSU football in 2022 and it isn’t close

It could be argued that he has peaked, and considering he’s been starting for four years and the biggest knock on him is he doesn’t make reads fast enough is concerning. After 4 years of starting and you’re still struggling to make reads, that’s an issue. Not saying he can’t improve in that area but it’s a pretty big concern seeing that he plays the QB position.

He had a good season, no one is denying that, it was not the second best season for an LSU QB.

He has had 27 total TDs in 13 games.

QBs that had better seasons:

JR 2006 - 3129 passing yards, 28 TDS & 1 TD Rushing (142 yards rushing)

Mauck 2003 - 2826 yards, 28 TDs & 1 TD Rushing

Davey 2001 - 3347 yards, 18 TDs in 12 games

I like Daniels, he's played well, but he had no where near as good of a season as any of those 3.

Also, only JR had close to the WR talent Daniels had in depth.

And late last night Michael Penix declared he would come back for a 6th season with Washington. And they are elated. This is the energy lsu needs.

seen this posted and it's just not true. georgia still had it's first string defense in until about 4 minutes left in the game.

probably because he is who he is at this point. a fantastic runner that's faster than most QB's in the country. has zip on the ball but is too indecisive and hesitant to throw the ball deep. this allows the defenses to cheat up because they don't respect him as a passer.

when nuss came in and started pushing the ball deep, you saw the running game open up and receivers getting open because it gets safeties out of the box. Idk if daniels can get over his mental hurdle of throwing guys open and throwing 50/50 balls. nuss doesn't seem to have a problem with it. kid threw 300 yards in one half against the #1 team in the country. that gives a lot of people hope. I think the aggressiveness is great to have but it has to be balanced somewhat. there's going to be turnovers in a game if you are challenging the defense downfield. it's just what does the coaching staff value? conservative dink and run or a QB that wants to get the ball to receivers for explosive plays.

it'll be interesting how this all shakes out. I think nuss with some more coaching and development could be great. Daniels at this point with a whole season in the SEC has progressed and regressed back to the mean. His florida, ole miss, bama stretch was what you want to see with him pushing the ball downfield.

He had his best season of his career by far here at lsu this past year.

How can you call that a peak when he tangibly improved as a player

Idiots always talk about the backup qb.
