So if Kelly had kept Daronte Jones would LSU be headed to the playoffs?

He seemed to be finding his groove there towards the end.

Daronte had a pretty good game plan once he was turned loose, but I don’t think 1-2 games is a big enough sample size to project his long term ability.

Defense was definitely better under Jones

I doubt it would be worse, not sure it would be better.

The only game the defense really played at LSU standard was Bama, but not sure if that was coaching or a combination of players who laying over their heads and Bama not expecting a fight.

Every member of Os last staff was better than this one. Baker. Carter (I’m not talking Lindsey). Daronte.

The Rant could coach a defense better than House, certainly no worse.

#106

House will probably leave here as a LB coach or some other position coach. LSU is one stop he won't want to be remembered for.

Dunno

But I'd gladly take that entire defensive staff (yes including Raymond) over what we have now. From both a coaching and recruiting standpoint.

Well House’s sample size was huge, it’s just the Offenses change so radically with each year.

GTFO as soon as he was allowed to call his own defense he shut down three SEC teams with Pig Cage, Darren Evans, Todd Harris, radarious jones, and Mike Jones playing the majority of snaps because the starters were hurt or quit. The job he did against Alabama will go down as the greatest game anyone has called with what he had to work with.

A drunk monkey could’ve gotten us to 9-2. DJ for sure would’ve gotten LSU to the playoffs.

He should never have taken the job that nobody else wanted. He is back as a defensive backs coach with the Vikings.

Nah

Last 4 regular season games, they did this:

Bama - 308 yds allowed, 4.89 yds/ play, 20 pts
Arky - 283 yds allowed, 4.29 yds/ play, 16 pts
ULM - 311 yds allowed, 4.7 yds/ play, 14 pts
aTm - 296 yds allowed, 4.7 yds/ play, 24 pts

Season avg - 377 yds allowed, 5.51 yds/ play, 26.6 pts

(Not gonna do the bowl game with all the missing players)

They were clearly trending upward as a defense. How much of that was purely attributable to Daronte is unknown, but hey somebody had them dudes playing hard and sound in a pretty much lost season (while in a lame duck role).

Hard to know Comparing year 1 to year 1 you would think no. Would Jones' year 2 have been worse or better?

Total Defense
2021 Jones - 72
2022 House year 1 - 40
2023 House year 2 - 103

My eight year old son would have us going into the playoffs this year. Matt House has to go, no question about it.
