In 2024 he would have been a SR instead of a redshirt JR if he burned the redshirt last year.

He could have easily taken a red shirt this year. If we are playing the hind sight game.

That’s yet to be determined.

It was the right choice. It is the right choice. It will always be the right choice.

Absolutely! That game meant nothing. Nuss has a future to consider. The fans have forever proven they will shite on a winner/player as soon as he makes a mistake.
Boutte is a great example.

Or, he could've played in that bowl game, balled out like he did against UGA in the second half and Kelly doesn't go after Daniels in the portal and we go into this season with Nuss as the starter?

In any case, I am glad things worked out like he did. That said, I don't see a likely scenario where Nuss plays QB for us in his RS-Sr season. He is either leaving to play elsewhere, or starting here for two years and going NFL. Assuming he stays and starts for two years, and isn't good enough to declare for the draft, he likely gets beat out by Howard or another incoming QB.

This is not a knock on Nussmeier but rather the reality for all college QBs these days.

It is obvious to anyone that Nuss has a passing skill set much better than Daniels. I trust Kelly to give him a fair shot to win the QB battle and really hope he does. It would mean he has separated himself from a damn good SEC QB and earned the right to play.

Yeh frick leaving your team mates out to dry.

Yeh frick the old "through thick and thin" mantra.

Yeh frick any display of leadership.

Yeh frick a couple more weeks of practice and some real game experience.

I don’t understand the logic. He’d be a 4 year player no matter what. The redshirt only comes into play in 2025.

Like you, I was extremely hard on Nuss about this decision. I have since learned that Kelly MAY have been in on advising him to sit. IF this is the case, I give him something of a pass. It still doesn't sit well that this was done to the guys who busted their arse for all of 2021 and practiced for two weeks for the bowl game only to be hung out to dry.

It MIGHT have been the right move for Nuss from a purely personal standpoint, but I doubt it.
But it reeked of poultry droppings when considered from the point of view of whether he is a reliable team player.

You can make a very good argument that it was a really bad decision.

Consider what the offseason would have looked like if he played well and threw 3 TDs against KState.

Consider what the starting battle would have looked like.

Consider what would have happened had he played the way he did against Georgia by mid season.

Honestly, the kid MIGHT have given away his only chance to get the job at LSU.

Only a short-sighted idiot would allow a player to burn a redshirt for one meaningless game.

You never burn a potential extra full season for one meaningless game. This is common sense.

While some fans criticized, there was never a decision to be made from the player-perspective OR the program-perspective.
