It was a slant….Boutte turned it into zag after he realized the ball wasn’t coming

Good post. As we can see in those situations, the offensive line did fairly well. A freshman TE got beat, the QB (or WR) failed to read the blitz and adjust, the TE was mismatched against their DE, a RB was mismatched against the same DE, and Daniels was run-happy on a play that Burrows would have bought time and thrown a completion for a giant gain.

The Rant sees this and shits all over a pretty good offensive line.

And that’s what makes the playcalling frustrating. That TD to Jenkins was what felt like the first drag route they ran the entire game. To beat that blitz he’s gotta have an option to dump it too. Felt like we were pushing downfield route concept wise every time they blitzed. there was never a bail out route.

first set on JD. hot read wide open.

second, doesn't make sense to me, 4 man front, why did wire help on the tackle and not help on the end? was this by design?
third set same thing, i dont get it. no blitz
5th set same thing, wtf. 4 man front

4th set - agree , step up and 2 wrs open.

Nice job Lou.

We can only hope that Denbrock's play calling in future games is much better in taking advantage of the players' talents, with much fewer 15-20 yard passes and more quick passes over the middle of the field. And let's hope Denbrock and Davis are on the same page.

Also, not sure how much, if any, a factor this is, but since Dillinger was playing his first game at center and the center is supposed to call the blocking, is some of this because of his inexperience and is likely to improve?

Finally, any idea who can read defenses better pre-snap, Daniels or Nuss?

Like in the first one, if you have a guy coming in unblocked, that is probably on the QB for not setting up his protection or hit that slot WR on the right immediately. That was not the OL fault

If you think an interior lineman coming unblocked is not on the line...I'm not sure what to tell you

This wasn’t on the O line or the OC. It was poor QB play plain and simple.

Can we stop comparing a guy who took 1 class that was an elective with better talent all over, to Daniels. Let the shite go, we don't have Burrow in 2019. Come down to earth with your expectations everyone...

some of it was. it was his first game in a new system. he's got to get the ball out faster to the playmakers. I think he'll improve by watching film.

we're all spoiled by watching joe burrow make these split second decisions and get the ball out making it look easy. burrow processed information quicker than any QB i've ever seen do it in college. he knew the offense and threw 60 TD's in 15 games. we'll likely never see anything like that in our lifetime.

You say that, and I agree but this honestly didn't exist for about 3 quarters last night. It was pretty amazing how empty the middle of the field was when we were throwing it.

I find it hilarious that some idiot is like, “qb just needs to hit the slant on blitz”, then someone who watched the film is like, “bro, what slants? There was no one in middle of field.”

All the room Daniels had to run was also evidence of where the routes and defenders went. And yes, with a shaky o-line, and a qb capable of taking off, call some quick passes not long developing plays.
