I don’t remember the year but LSU was playing Texas in CWS. Texas had a stud pitcher. LSU pitchers were backing out of the box several times trying to get in pitcher’s head. I respect Skip but this happened

It's a game as old as time. Hitters toe the line on time between pitches, call time as late as possible, crowd the plate, all of the above. Jay's now using offensive timeouts with a similar intent.

Not sure what the point is here. Obviously there are different philosophies on how to attack teams to get in their head in baseball since it’s such a mental game. Saying that rules change certain umps think they are God and you have to adhere so you don’t become the player called out with 2 men on in a tight game.

Ranters dislike when they know you're right but they don't like to hear it.

Dislikes are a badge of honor.

This is a super common baseball tactic.

That third base ump was just an unprofessional drama queen who needed to take a 105MPH liner to the vag.

If you can explain how a pitcher who is not batting backs out of the batter's box to get in the opposing pitcher's head who is not even on the field, I'll change my downvote to an upvote

It was the year 2000, and our first game of the CWS.

LSU won, 13-3.

What I don't understand is that both teams were doing it. But the ump seemed to be picking on Jaubert specifically. He was even checking his stopwatch the next time Jaubert came up to bat and gave him another warnig when he attempted to step out of the box. Like you stated, players do it all the time. Did those two have some sort of beef earlier in the game or series that may have led to this?

I doubt it was personal the first time. They were looking for somebody to stick it to. I have no problem with it if they give fair warning. I have a big problem with the timing of it, unless they literally scolded him on the pitch prior. Jay should've got tossed.

It was personal the second time. They had already called him on it once, and he started to do the same exact thing after the first pitch. Then, he put his toe in the very back corner of the box. It came across as smart assy. All fine for me if you can keep your head in the at bat. He never took the bat off his shoulders.

Didn't downvote your original post but downvoted your copy of post and your insecurity of downvotes.

2000.

UT also had a lardass 1B who kept blocking Tiger runners off the bag on pickoff attempts.

The fact is jobert should have gotten back in the box when asked he did not.
The 3rd bas ump was a dick and called the 3rd strike and the followed it up by pulling the watch out on his net at bat. That is Bush league crap the up need to be reprimanded for the vindictive nature on the 2nd at bat

That's my point in the JJ Can't Handle It 2.0 thread.

A coach with his players back and some real man nuts has a few ways to get a point across to the umpires. None were used.

I'm concerned.

I doubt anyone cares if he’s right or wrong...but what’s the point here?

Plus the whining about downvotes is a surefire way to get slammed, and rightfully so. Such a bitch move.

Lets keep one foot in the box at all times. It will speed up the game. I don't like all that stepping out adjusting your gloves BS after every single pitch. If you are gonna have a time clock on the pitchers every pitch the batter should have one as well.
