Should we even be upset about LSU basketball?

Look at what MM had to do to overcome the player losses. Is it even feasible to think that another coach, given the obstacles, would be more successful?
Being disappointed is expected. I had high expectations for this team going into the season. Then they started 12-0, I was over the moon.
The problem for me is, they are simply not competitive. No LSU basketball team should ever lose by 40 to anyone.

Yes. This season has been an abject failure. Even the most optimistic fan should be questioning whether McMahon has the ability to turn it around.

Yes we should be upset that we had a coach that was constantly getting us into the NCAA tournament and had us on an upward trajectory from there was fired for basically nothing....then we hired what we have now.

I'm not. I am a die hard LSU fan but I feel like its been a long time since our mens basketball team has been worth a damn. I loved WW and with they way it all went down I just dont care anymore about MBB. When I go on the rant and see ohter teams making fun of our MBB team I could care less. In my opinion is baseball season!
Now if this was happening to our baseball team which is historically one of the best programs ever then I would be in full meltdown mode!

LSU doesn't care about basketball or they would be pumping football type money into the program.
I'm guesstimating LSU needs to invest $75-100M into that program and facilities over the next 5-7 years to get it where it needs to be to compete nationally.

LSU SEC record by year:
2018–19: 15-2
2019-20: 12-6
2020-21: 11-6
2021-22: 9-9

No we shouldn’t be. Anyone who thought this season was going to go in any other direction is delusional. WW really hurt this program and the affects will be felts for a couple to few more years.

21-22 was a disappointment, but I think everyone knows that 22-23 was going to be a much better year with what Wade had coming in.

Yes. Any team that continues to perform like this should get the ire of fans.
Did he come into an ideal situation? No he didn't.
Should the men's team have shown some type of improvement by now? Yes it should.
His recruiting so far is subpar.
He said the he would have left in the first half. He knows is product is shite.
Recruiting and product must improve exponentially or he will be shown the door before the end of year 3.
Just my .02.

Wade isn't even going to be punished by the NCAA....he'll be rebuilding another basketball program in a few short months.
LSU will be languishing with what we have now.

I think you can both understand he was battling an uphill climb and also be upset about the way he has handled that climb.

Yes it’s a representation of our school.
Don’t care about all the reasons of why there is failure. It’s a Failure.

Will Wade gave Scott Woodward no other choice. WW fricked up and got caught. These are the consequences for WW’s actions, not SW. Unfortunately LSU has to pay the price now.

Complete apathy right now
I know we have to give McMahon some more time but these blowouts are pretty concerning

Anyone putting really lofty expectations on this team was always a bit off course. After the Arkansas game, I was feeling pretty confident that we'd at least be competitive in most, if not all, of our SEC games. But in no universe should we be THIS bad.

I couldn't possibly agree more. I mean we had this great coach that was a practically a shoe-in for at least the final 4 or maybe even a natty and what happens?
He was calmly sitting at his desk balancing his wife's checking account, paying a few of her bills and BOOM he gets fired for no reason. What is it with that?

Yeah, gotta go all the way back to the year 2022.

You can be upset, but you should not be surprised.
By taking so long to rule, the NCAA is doing much more harm to our program than it would by simply just issuing sanctions and moving on.

I'm 30 so lsu has been shite at basketball my entire adult life except for Will Wade years
I'm upset that we fired him over what's legal now. But more apathetic than anything. It just doesn't look like we give a frick about men's basketball

And he overcame those.
LSU was picked to finish 8th in a conference that was expected to be among the toughest in the country. The general consensus was this roster was good enough to be a NIT team and, potentially, had an outside shot at a NCAA Tournament bid. Yet, almost daily, we have someone come in and say "leave Matt alone. Look what he had to overcome" as if he entered the season with only 8 players on a roster comprised of three benchwarmers from Murray St., Chubby from Teenwolf, Steve Urkel, Jackie Moon, Air Bud, and Adam Miller.

Yes. Jerome Tang, Dennis Gates, TJ Otzelberger (last year) ALL had to replace as many, if not more, players in their first seasons. Yet, they managed to win. I think in the SEC alone there are at least 12 coaches who would have been more successful this season that McMahon.
He did not have unreasonably high expectations going into the season...and he has fallen WOEFULLY short of even those. He's already tied the longest losing streak Trent Johnson ever had at LSU and he's three away from tying Jones' longest losing streak at LSU. And he's doing it in convincing fashion. 12 straight losses. 11 by 10+ points.
