Anybody else think that this is the year that he fulfills the lofty expectations that Tiger Nation had for him when he arrived in '09?

Shep, to me, is an awful lot like Skyler Green, in that coaches have seemed unable to find a consistent way to get him the ball in a way he can do damage.

Both were HS QB's with ridiculous highlight reels. Both had questionable hands and rout running ability. Both seemed to make huge plays fairly often when they DO get the ball...

Hopefully with Mett and a desire to make it happen, Shep can step into that great slot role and do some damage.

It will be hard for him to live up to original expectations, but if Mett comes through as even half of what people are expecting of him, then I think Shep will have a very solid season.

Bold predictions for Shep in 2012:

1. QB will throw a pass to him that goes BEYOND the line of scrimmage!

2. Shep will not only THROW A PASS (!), he will throw TWO passes, one of which will be batted back to him, he'll catch it and run for a touchdown.

Yeah...that truly is a bold prediction

Skyler Green was a real weapon before Les arrived. I agree that RS seems to be following in the footsteps of Skyler. Underused/Misused/Second thought/No thought. Then again with a QB that throws a ball that you don't have to scoop off the ground, reach back for, or jump up for, if he even throws it at all, maybe RS can reach his potential.

I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it. Why he has yet to attempt one is baffling to me and I believe, for whatever reason, it will never happen. Again, I sure hope I'm wrong.

This just isn't the case, though I guess it fits the new "Bash Miles" narrative that's popular with the kids these days. Unless you're talking about special teams play...then I'd agree.

Sky was a senior in 2005 when Les arrived on the scene. He ended that season with 32 catches for 268 yards with a punt return for a score. Before that? In 2004 he went 24 catches for 219 and 3 TD's. In 2003 he had his best year with 48 catches for 519 and 5 TD's. In 2002 he was 7 for 123 and a TD.

Neither staff ever found a way to consistently get him the ball. Shep is much the same way. Dangerous with the ball in his hands, but for some reason no one has figured the best way to get it to him in space. In Skyler's case, they essentially did nothing but bubble screen it to him and hope for the best...and that our shitty field didn't tackle him when he tried to make a cut. Shep hasn't even gotten that much.

He's a good kid, so I hope you're right. Seems like the same thing is said every year.

We shredded Miami in 2005 with our backup QB and a package of plays designed specifically to feature Skyler.

I believe if we'd have made that an emphasis all year, we'd have been just as effective doing it all year.

I agree Shep will have a breakthrough year. Bubbble screens and getting him the ball in space with Mettsiah slinging the rock! 2012 isn't the end of the world it's a new beginning

He needs 15 lbs of muscle and a couple thousand balls, this summer. Work it!

I think he'll have his best year by far in 2012 and early in 2013. Look at the pros. Players go buck wild when they are in their contract year. It's the same for Shep this year. I think he got a bit of a wake up call when he tried to go pro this year, and he did the right thing and changed his mind. I'm not expecting something extraordinary, but I think we'll see a legitiment threat on the field this year, so long as our Qb situation is where we think it is with Mett.

He wont fulfill the expectations we had for him because they were through the roof when he first got here. But I'd be happy if he is improved with his route running and becomes more consistent for us and we actually get him the ball! Hopefully with the Berger we can do that

His expectations were as a QB, not a WR.

I think he goes off this year now that he finally has a QB that can get him the ball.
Shep will be a key part in leading us to a championship this year.
