It’s common knowledge that E can’t design an offense but he has been at the very least serviceable when running a system already in place (2016, 2019, 2020).

Again I can see how that’s not ideal but you don’t fire the pilot cuz he can’t build a plane. You just buy him a damn plane. Which is what O did.

Davis just got off his show cause from the NCAA.
What is amazing is how these Bama recruiting violations were summarily disposed of when Davis resigned.

The NCAA announced on Friday that former Alabama assistant coach Bo Davis has been handed a two-year show cause penalty for providing "false or misleading information about impermissible recruiting contacts."

The NCAA's Committee on Infractions concluded that Davis, unnamed in the release, "acted unethically" when he knowingly participated in an "impermissible meeting arranged by a booster with four prospects at their high school."

The show-cause for Davis, currently at UT-San Antonio, begins immediately (April 14, 2017) and runs through April 13, 2019. It is not yet known how the penalty will affect Davis' job with UTSA.

"The booster later initiated another impermissible meeting with three of the prospects on her own," the NCAA release said. "The contacts provided the university with a recruiting advantage because, contrary to NCAA rules, the activity occurred before the end of the prospects' junior year of high school and allowed the booster to recruit prospects."

AL.com reports "Davis has maintained with the NCAA that the meeting wasn't pre-arranged and that it consisted simply of Davis introducing himself upon urging from the players' high school coach."

Additionally, Alabama "committed Level III recruiting violations when a second former assistant football coach had impermissible off-campus contact with a recruit during an evaluation period and members of the football staff impermissibly allowed a prospect's youth football coach to attend a recruiting visit at the prospect's home."

The university self-imposed an off-campus recruiting ban for 30 days for that assistant in 2015 and suspended him for a game.

The case was resolved through a summary disposition process, meaning the NCAA and Alabama agreed to the facts of the case. When approached about the violations by both the NCAA and Alabama, Davis denied his involvement despite corroboration of the events by two prospects and the high school's football coach. Davis resigned as Alabama's D-line coach last year.

Additional penalties, per the release, include...

Public reprimand and censure for the university.
A withholding of the former assistant coach and his replacement from off-campus recruiting and telephone contact for 39 days, from April 22 through May 31, 2016 (self-imposed by the university).
A disassociation of the booster (self-imposed by the university).
A $5,000 fine (self-imposed by the university).

Facts dude: Joe Burrow year 1 vs Joe Burrow year 2.

Every single piece was the same.. One guy was different. His name was Joe Brady.

Brady’s wide receiver drills were legendary. Everybody on the offense magically became NFL ready.

Just stop. We don’t want to bad mouth to E. A lot of us like him as a guy and coach. Just don’t want him running the offense.

Fact: Joe Burrow was putting up Joe Burrow numbers the last three games of 2018 without Brady coaching.

Fact: the players wouldn't have had the same practice time to implement his legendary receiver drills.

I get it, most on this site want another Offensive Coordinator and E is likely to retire anyway. But give the man some credit, he did exceedingly well considering his limited resources.

clearly not Vol and freely admit I have no inside the house information but my take:

we have had problems keeping guys because we haven't consistently delivered a threat to be a playoff team.

If you look at Bama, Clemson and TOSU they seem to be returning everyone or at least key ones. they have a slightly better recruiting crop than us but they have been in the playoffs over and over and over. So what happens is the kid comes in and maybe wins a title his freshman year or sophomore year and then lose jr year or such. So now they want to win again.

at LSU its been one trip to the playoff and success.

18 we had success and actually got guys to not leave and it lead to 19 with some other changes.

I think if you see LSU making the playoffs in 21 and a threat in 22 and such it can start the ball rolling toward that.

I do think O has tried to change it, but it is a fine line. we sell it has NFLSU so we need players in the league. What we need to do a better job is selling guys on stay that one more year and etch your name along side Burrow and such. I think we see some of that with how O embraced the past tigers, now he did get burned by Clark doing that.

We start beating bama some what consistently and putting ourselves in more championship scenarios and it will be easier to get guys back.

No one said it’s not odd or an issue but to not acknowledge that it is the current set up just to trash E for the perform those two settings is lazy.

Sure I think the OC should call all the plays and if your criticism of E is that he needs help in those areas then that is fair. To say he needs to be fired cuz we suck on 3rd down and in the red zone is like saying the QB coach should be fired cuz the WRs keep dropping the ball.

So i dont think he should be fired. He has done a lot for the program. I just think him being OC isn't the best option and shouldn't remain

Then in this scenario, the problem is we hired a pilot when we need a plane builder.

Spin-off question for you Vol because you have a good “feel” for the program and players. Why does LSU have more of a problem than others with guys leaving early and is this something Orgeron is looking to change?

Because it's the culture that miles created and SD and it's carried over. The whole NFLSU thing is not good for LSU. The whole come for 3 years and leave has been sold over and over again. It's been one of the main selling points in recruiting and yes absolutely O is looking to change that.

FACT: all of that started after Bama pulled our pants down again on offense. E is a fine man and good OC when the season isn't on the line. Remember in that stretch of games where Burrow put up big numbers: our play off hopes were dashed, we also had an 7 OT game and we got UCF. so it was nice we did that but when it mattered. O and E put up a a game plan vs bama that resulted in 0 points and really almost no threat at all that we would score.

E did the samething in 16 as well. Also put on top of that that our offense was much worse vs UF in 16 and 18 than it was the rest of the year.

E has been a great tiger, and he needs to be around the program. He doesn't need to be the full true OC if we expect to win a sec title and natty consistently

Yea Bama manages to sell the NFL future thing as well and winning titles and its a process.

Clemson does the same thing.

we can still sell the NFLSU thing but we need to make it about our facilities and that we will make you champions. It was hard to do though when Bama is pantsing you 8 years in a row.

Do you think the opt-out situation would have looked the same if Brady were still around?

Marshall was going to eclipse his 15 game 2019 production in a 10 game season before he chose to opt out.

What is he waiting on? It's year 4.

Well he kind of did in 18. Got a lot of guys to come back, but overall he hasn't had a real need to change it until this year. He has tried somewhat, but the whole come to lsu for 3 years and then go to nfl needs to stop being used. Needs to be that since 03, every senior class has played for atleast 1 championship every 4 years except the 2015 team which was ranked #1 in November before injuries derailed the season.

Needs to use the pitch that if you come here for 4 years you will play for a championship, you will earn a degree, you will be a high draft pick and you will be taken care of in the state of Louisiana for the rest of your life by LSU fans.

Marshall played 12 games in 2019 and went from the #3 WR to #1 option.

I think most of us welcome the change, however the sky screaming about the offense this year is somewhat unwarranted. Everything is relative. We would have killed for a top 15 passing game a few years ago.

That i can agree to. I also think we're stuck in the moment as we are still in the same year that we won a national championship with the best offense ever. we still arent that far remove from the archaic les miles offense either. But again we all have the right to critique certain things. Red zone and 3rd down are important to success and we were horrible there. Thats on E as well as Linehan

I'd be fine keeping Ensminger as OC if Calloway became PGC and was allowed to call plays and run parts of the offense like Brady was. Offense was not the problem this year. They lost everyone on that side of the ball basically and then Brennan got hurt.

I just don't see the need for Linehan in any scenario.

If defense is the least bit mediocre instead of historically awful, we win the first two games. And if Brennan stays healthy we win A&M as well.
