re: SEC officials are out of control

IMO, SEC officials almost always favor the higher ranked team. Whether they do it on purpose or not is another question. I think some show a deliberate bias, and some are influenced by their expectations, just as we all are. From a business perspective, it makes sense to preserve the SEC's higher ranked team's record-it means more money and more recognition for the conference to have teams as highly ranked as possinble.

why wouldnt they want to have the trophy 4 yrs in a row? SEC's best bet at that is with bama or uf.

Far be it from me to take up for SEC officials but a lot of the blame goes to the media. Remember everyone bitching about the call in our game with UGA? The announcers went bonkers and it was replayed for days.
Then, during the Florida/Pig game they showed the officials WARNED Green but he continued the celebration. That was never shown to us during the game or for days afterward.
I watched so much football I forget which game but I think it was OSU/Missouri when the announcers went bonkers about a face mask call. Turns out the players number the official flagged was #1, not #7 as announced but the ref misstated the numbers when he explained the call. The media completely missed it and reported incorrectly as a horrible call. It wasn't.

I guess the "all powerful" admin's are letting this post stand even though it refers to other things besides LSU. The consistency they show is amazing..

Here's an interesting inconsistency that I noticed yesterday.
Late in the Notre Dame game, a ND receiver catches a ball. He is being tackled by a USC defender, then a second one comes in and scrapes his helmet off his head - with pretty much the side of his body. The ND receiver bends back in obvious anquish. USC is called for blow-to-the-head-on-a-defenseless-player.
Two weeks ago, Washington is down to its last play in OT at Notre Dame. Locker throws a deep ball over the middle, the receiver jumps to catch it, misses it, and a ND safety comes in and hits him helmet-to-helmet and the UW player's helmet goes flying off. He's is laid out on the ground for a few moments. No flag, game over, Notre Dame wins.
That's horrible.

I don't think you can say they sold out to the BCS, when we were ranked #1 we were still one of the most penalized teams in the country. I think there are too many officials from Alabama, which builds in an inherent bias. I think the SEC needs a rule that in any game no more than 25% of the refs can come from the same state.

Wil's got it right.
SEC officials favor the league favorites (higher rated teams) and have for as long as I remember.
Foor the longest tiem , that just meant Ala. got all the calls (and still do), but I've seen them favor us, Auburn, Fla, too.
The SEC officiating has no integrity and it will not change until that fact costs them money, instead of profiting them.
The ND calls were highly suspect, but if you were watching the head linesman and the spots he gave ND in the 4th QTR, he was killing USC with feet and inches.

I loved the no-call on a blatant offensive interference by Riley Cooper late in the game that should have been an interception
Posted on 10/18/09 at 4:11 pm to dudeilovebeer
Those were some pretty pi** poor calls. Arkansas still should have won the game with two shanks, but to keep a drive that needed to be a TD, alive with the yellow flag is despicable. The Riley Cooper call was lousy, but we still lose the game. Same can't be said about the Arkansas game.

we need to have a national pool of refs and not associated with conferences. There is too much money involved to keep integrity in the system

:asskisser: thats the sec officals

check out the rest of UT's games if you want to see some Big 12 ref's looking out for the conference. It was comical a few years ago when they were undefeated and got a few "breaks" from the officials. Just ask Kansas. Their coach had the balls to point it out.

No so fast my friend. Bama DBs were mugging USC receivers all night long and got away with most of it.
i can't go along with this. saban teaches great technique. there is always some contact. for instance, i saw jefferey from SC pushing off with his arm a few times. it wasn't enough to get called. but i thought that game was pretty well called. there were a lot of penalties both sides. and deservedly so. bama was not favored.
but florida sure was.

You're right-it happens in other conferences, too. Also, if they didn't favor higher ranked/higher reputation teams, there would be less undefeated or one loss teams, and chaos would ensue in the BCS.

Also, fwiw, the officials in the ND-USC game yesterday were Pac-10 officials. So, that's a huge knock against all of you saying the refs have a conference bias. If so, the Pac-10 crew certainly would have favored calls in USC's favor.

right... but the clock does not stop on the instant of the incompletion but the official waving his hands.. which was 0

actually ND usually gets biase in favor from many conferences = because those conference want to be called when ND needs refs....... the base conference really has no choice....

So, a conference would instruct its officials to be biased at ND in order to get its refs sent there again instead of being biased in favor of the team that stands to make them $17 million if it gets to a BCS bowl game? Right...

Bama seems to get very favorable calls as well.
