It is probably the one true critique of Finley that is concerning the most against Arkansas and for the rest of the season. What happens when he faces tougher defenses, will he still see ghosts? Much of the commentary by these SEC Network announcers was god awful, but this one they nailed.

After the turnovers 3 weeks ago you can see he’s very concerned about the rush, he got happy feet even when there was no reason to. Still a freshman yes, but the SEC can destroy a QB’s mentality. Hopefully not this freshman, he’s got a hot arm, and LSU needs that!

Pocket presence is one of the things that is most easily developed IMO. It comes with coaching and experience. Finley has the things you can’t teach like size, arm strength, confidence, accuracy.

I havwnt Really seen him second guess a throw.

I’m exactly not sure what you mean by seeing ghosts.

No, they really didn't. Stinchcomb was blabbing about this multiple times after the TD, as if the fact he threw a damn TD to take the lead wasn't the story. Finley moved in the pocket, kept his eyes downfield, and threw a good pass. "Seeing ghosts" is only a thing if he's pulling the ball down to escape pressure that isn't there. Again, he kept his eyes downfield and threw the ball right after moving in the pocket.

Pocket presence, Sammy. Burrow was a master at developing it, LSU’s other QB’s all lagged far behind. Finley seems to have everything else you want, physical with great touch and a rocket srm.

Also on the play where he was rolling to his right and through it across his body to Gilbert, the announcers clamored on and on and how “dangerous” of a throw it was. Which throwing across you body can be, but Gilbert was literally wide open and not that far down the field and Finley has a cannon, there was nothing remotely dangerous about it.

I don’t complain about announcers much because it’s a job I could never do, but the guys who called that game should probably opt out.

A 5th year grad transfer vs an 18 year old true freshman. I would hope so.

Yep. On the game winning TD pass he unnecessarily left the pocket. But he didn't panic. He quickly realized the OL had him protected, moved back into the pocket, scanned the whole field (after initially looking to his right on the first and maybe second read) and found a wide open Jenkins for a TD.

There were a few occasions where he climbed up or left the pocket unnecessarily but maintained the awareness to keep his eyes downfield AND remain aware of the LOS.

Is he seeing everything? Of course not. But he does show some good traits. Case in point. Watch 4th & 3 in 2nd Quarter. He initially looks for the crossing route. Which isn't there. He then considers throwing to the RB running a flair...it's covered. So he comes back to the middle of the field (where someone screws up a route because 3 guys end up in the same place 2 yards apart) and hits Gilbert for a 1st down...all while feeling the NT shoving Shananhan directly into Finley's face.

Lol. QBR was 21.1 in that game and that doesn’t take in account the sacks taken. He was completely lost that day. He’ll improve, he’s only a freshman, but it’s putting lipstick on a pig to say he did anything that day.

You’re absolutely right, on the last TD they crucified him for seeing ghost, but like you said he never fully left the pocket and slid back towards the middle when he saw there wasn’t pressure.

He only looks right then he rolls right. Instinctively he knows he’s cornering himself and that’ll tend to make you jumpy. A lot of the plays he makes are desperation throws like the ones he throws back across field which are very poor decisions. A QB should be anticipating not winging it as much as he does. Thank god he’s got ability.

It's really annoying when people regurgitate football talk buzz words when they have no understanding of the game.

And if you can keep your eyes downfield and slide in the pocket with a good base to throw it may open throwing angles. Burrow was a master at this.
