So I called yesterday and spoke to an account specialist. My buddy is an attorney and told me to make them put a note in my account stating that if they didn't provide SEC network by 8/14/14, we would be discontinuing our contract on basis that directv could not fufill contractual obligations.

Directv promises in the contract to be leading satiliette provider with most popular channel options.

In short, account specialist stated she is 100% confident they will get a contract with network and that the negotiations are on going.

She said expect an announcement mid July.

Does anyone have a word on Cox and SEC Network. I already get the Longhorn Network which I do not want and would gladly substitute

Good stuff. Would hate to drop DTV, but don't want to miss SECNet.

While I am confident both DirecTV and Cox will get the channel, nothing would surprise me after watching some of the fighting with Comcast Sports, Cox Sports Television and the like. I know this is apples to oranges in that it is more national than one or two states regional, but it would still make me nervous if I wasn't a subscriber of UVerse.

Yesterday in Costco the direct tv "sales" rep told me direct had signed the contract to carry SEC network.

I told him when the official announcement is made I might consider.

Should I hold my breath?

If DirecTV only existed in the southeast, you may have an argument. The rest of the country couldn't care less if they had it, just like I don't care that I have Bog 10 and Long Horn networks. Most popular to you =/= most popular to their entire customer base.

With that said, I'm sure they'll get it.

I spoke with a salesman from Cox a week ago and he said they have been hearing that talk is going well and he's pretty confident that Cox will have it. He said Cox knows it will lose a large number of customers and pretty much has no choice but to do what's necessary to get the channel.

I laughed at your arrogant false legal statement too.

Any news for Eatel?

You guys realize that you are talking to minimum-wage employees working in a call center , right?....if they tell you anything other than what is written in their script, it is total speculation on their part....

I did the same and stated the same thing a month ago

My brother's best friend is not a minimum wage employee at Direct TV. He is a regional supervisor and he has guaranteed they will have it before next football season.

I work in the TV business and your attorney is an idiot

Directv is a 50 billion dollar company and people try that shite all the time and we just LOL at them

Same as when they drop a channel or raise prices. It's all in the fine print

They will get the network. Directv is the biggest brand in pay TV and the sec network needs them

Don't worry I've heard the two sides are very close. Remember the network doesn't launch for 50 days and that's an eternity in contract negotiations.

Yeah not much of a legal argument to be made.

I have full confidence that DirectTV will have it before opening kickoff

Good entertainment in this thread. The people you folks are talking to are not even located in the corporate building. They work in small cubicles with Moutain Dews next to their computer with the a phone on the other side of the computer.

I think your buddy is a second year law student.

There would be no breach of contract on their part whatsoever.

This is false. I get my information from a guy that supervises a regional office and is always traveling to El Segundo Corporate.

i wanted to start a thread on an update on the sec network but im afraid

im a third party contractor with both dish and directv and i am at their corporate office many times per quarter. i was at a high level meeting last month in El Segundo and i do know for a fact that Mike White(CEO)is personally speaking with the SEC reps weekly and wants to get this done ASAP

my takeaway was that directv is going to do everything possible and has no plans to not carry it.

not to pull the curtain back too much but one thing you guys dont realize is that DISHs contract was up with ESPN last fall and part of the negiotations with disney is that dish had to take the Longhorn Network, put ESPNEWS and Disney in HD, and take the SEC network so DISHs hands were tied and they agreed

DIRECTVs contract is up 7/31 with disney and i expect them to pull the same thing with directv on the longhorn network and SEC.

stay tuned, thats all i can say right now as i have a contract and dont want to say too much.

bottom line- if youre planning on leaving directv because of them not getting the SEC network, i wouldnt

Yeah, people on here are not very receptive of people's sources but I don't care. If you have any updates, I for one, would be appreciative. I can't always get the up to date info unless I visit my brother.
