Nobody had us going 9-3 in the regular season.

Yep. Because 6-6 was our ceiling this year

You have that backwards. The low expectations were from the people taking up for 0. Others expected results regardless of the coach.

I don't remember people running the program down and saying we'd be in the playoff hunt for awhile and we'd finish in the top 12.

It was doom and gloom and negative people went crazy every time a negative article surfaced.

I can agree with that A- grade.

Hijack: Kind of funny that Tillman was here all weekend, with no Ree. Tillman gets banned and BAM...Ree returns. Hmmmmm.

LSU had more talent than 10 of the 12 teams on their schedule. So....not much overachieving going on at LSU.

That has been disproven.

Sure our D was loaded but nearly half of the O starters were 3 star guys and many of our 4 star starters on O hadn't played very much.

Most of the "negatigers" said LSU needed to win 9+ games in the regular season regardless of the "hard" schedule/coaching staff, etc.

And what is more funny was before the season started, you had people like bencoleman saying we had the talent to contend this year. But as the season played out, he magically changed his tune to LSU not having talent and that no should have expected to win 9 games.

Can’t really argue. He got burrow here and navigated a tough schedule with 9 wins. He did a good job.

When is LSU’s schedule not tough?

Well it was pretty soft last year and he still lost 4 games. Last season was an anomaly in the SEC in that several coaches were fired.

LSU has a tough schedule every season. 9-3 isn’t doing a good job at LSU.

Now we all know that all offseason they ran the program down, predicted less than 8 wins and pointed out how we were forecasted to be 6th in the West and how low O was rated.

Except we all said we had 11 win talent with 7 win coaching. That nets you 9 wins.

Or people like Tiger Ree who refused to make a prediction.

People who lean on “preseason predictions” who ignore that we jumped 14 spots after the opener and we were #5 going into Florida, #4 going into Bama and #8 going into A&M

Clearly once we put a product in the field, the national expectations changed. Pretty quickly.

At this point, I don't think Orgeron as a coach is the problem. It's the fact that he refuses to hire an offensive coordinator that will bring the offense into this century

I think those are conflicting statements.
quote:

I don't understand the whole he's paranoid idea either. I've seen people claim he won't hire coaches because he's paranoid that they'll take his job. How many head coaches that win games and make the playoffs have you ever seen fired? If he brings in an OC to update the offense and wins 11 or 12 games why in the hell would they fire Orgeron? You can't fire a coach for winning and making the playoff. I don't give a shite who his assistants are.

I think the issue is making the safe/comfortable hire. Unless you have a superior talented team you have to be willing to take risks to win. It goes with hires and in game decisions. Les at the latter part of his tenure here changed from the river boat gambler to ultra conservative which guaranteed we would beat (usually) teams we outmatched based on talent and struggle against teams of equal or superior talent.

I don't see a great deal of difference in the latter Les and current Orgeron. Fortunately we should be much better offensively due to talent and experience on the 2019 team, but I'm skeptical that O and SE will out scheme opposing D's which will have to happen to beat teams like Bama.

I think the grades are accurate and the author did a good job of explaining his position.

Gave O the same grade as Fisher and Mullen, that's reasonable given how the season played out

That's because I magically saw how they played and revised my opinion. Are you really this dense? Apparently you are.

I was hoping we'd win 8 games somehow.
I was extremely worried about out O.
I knew we had a beast of s schedule you. Playing Auburn, Florida and A$M on the road is never easy and playing Miami away from TS first would be challenging.

I give the O high marks for taking care of the ball, for Burrow, and for finding a decent run game at times without a top shelf TB. Poor marks for pass pro, making big plays and scoring TDs.

D was very good but DL did not lead the way as I had hoped. The DL wasn't a force. Back seven shined though.

I think A- is a little high, but you can't argue with it too much. I'd be OK with the A if we had pulled out the A&M game.

Based on "everyone's" prediction for our season and how we actually did, an A- seems right.

Awfully convenient that you didn't change your tune while we were undefeated.

Just admit you move the goalposts to suit your narrative.

It is possible to give a raise without simultaneously giving an extension

That’s what they do. Goalposts have constantly been moved for O
