Obviously most people just look at the game record and determine the relative value of the teams. But the series record can sometimes tell a different story. The baseline for making the tournament in the past has been 13 conference wins, but that can conceivable be accomplished by winning only 2 conference series. And I don't think one can argue that a team going 2-8 in conference should make the post season.

Here is where things stand in games vs series.

Games
1. Texas
2. LSU and Arkansas
4. Tennessee
5. Alabama, Georgia, Vandy, Ole Miss
9. Auburn, Oklahoma
11. Kentucky
12. Florida, Texas A&M
14. Mississippi State
15. South Carolina
16. Mizzou

Series
1. Texas - 7
2. LSU, Auburn, Georgia - 5
5. Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Vandy - 4
9. Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas A&M - 3
14. Mississippi State - 2
15. South Carolina - 1
16. Mizzou - 0

Auburn being a game over .500 but with 5 series wins so far is crazy.

How do you get 13 with two series wins?
Oh, I understand now.

Sweep twice. Only get swept once. Collect 7 wins in series losses.

Project what do you think the threshold for hosting this year will be and what do you think the cutoff for getting into a regional will be?

I don't have a great handle on other conferences right now, other than that I think WVU is pretty good. So I don't know about hosting stuff.

I really hope they don't dip down to 12 conference wins to put SEC teams in. Especially since there are a few butt asses propping up some win totals.

He was sitting mid upper 80s with his FB. Not sure how much he’ll be used going forward given the stuff, but there’s always room for guys who can throw strikes, especially in this bullpen.

I think even that is rare, or at best around 50/50, barring winning the SEC Tournament. LSU made it with 12 in the 30-game SEC era once, but they won the SEC tournament to do it.

This year seems different. At one point it looked like we could have 6+ teams with 18 wins which used to be a lock for a national host. Now it looks like 12 or 13 wins could get you in if you don’t completely flub the last 3 weeks. The SEC currently has 13 teams getting in with State, USC, and that big12 team out.

WVU is where they are because they have the weakest possible schedule in a weak Big12. WVU will host but probably lose in their own regional.

This reminds me, frick the SEC for giving us 4 Big 12 series.

And if you want to extend it farther back, we also have Arkansas and South Carolina on our schedule. (I don't actually mind this, I like the 12 team SEC)

I don't feel like looking, but I wonder if any other original member had all 4 Big 12 teams on the schedule this year.

And how much do you think Texas paid the conference to have A&M and LSU travel there in the first season?

This. Only team they’ve played with a pulse is Arizona and they lost. Other than that they’ve barely played anyone who will be in the postseason at all.

Not P but I see at least 6 or 7 SEC teams hosting. I could see a 16-14 hosting depending on who it is.

Auburn could get there easily by going 5-4 and winning two of their last 3 series, and be a borderline top 8 seed at 16-14. That would break some brains.

I was thinking of them or Vanderbilt specifically. I swear one year Florida hosted at 15-15 but I could be misremembering.

ETA: Just looked it up. In 2022, Florida at 15-15 and Auburn at 16-13 hosted. Meanwhile Arkansas at 18-12 and LSU at 17-13 went on the road.

I'm getting mad in retrospect because we went to Gainesville and took 2/3 that year, and loudly.
