Joey and Bo did a pre game HR derby in BR. Broke many of the married housing dorm windows. One hoppers.

I went to HHS with Joey. There was no evangel back then. It was Shreve Christian at the time. He did hit some balls in practice that outfielders were still chasing when Joey crossed home plate (if he actually ran the bases). No fences on the practice field.

I’ll just say this. I think Crews has it all to he a very good MLB player. I love him! Belle did it at the MLB level and at an amazing level!

IMO he was the best player ever at LSU, but let’s let Crews’s career play out! My God he still has another year!

I pitched against both Joey and his brother Terry when they played us at Ruston High. Both those boys hit home runs off of me. Joey hit one in left field that hit the shop building. Forget measuring in feet. That home run needed to be measured in yards. I’ve never seen a line drive travel 300+ yards. Terry hit one to right field that touched the clouds before it hit the graveyard. Men amongst boys those two were. Good grief it’s fortunate they didn’t kill some pitcher or infielder with a hard hit ground ball or head high line drive.

It wasn’t just the equipment.
The equine testosterone had a little something to do with it, too.

I saw Joey Belle in the '80s at the old Box. They were playing Navy. He hit a rocket line drive right at the third baseman that hit the guy in the chest before he could even get his glove up. I don't know how it didn't kill him.

Mr Belle was the greatest talent to don the purple and gold. Skip admitted that he mishandled the relationship. Shame.

Just had a breathtaking swing.

Heck, gimme 9 guys that play like they hate the world and lets see what happens.

My favorite Joey Belle story was when he climbed the fence, at the SEC tourney I believe, with a 2 x 4 he broke off from the fence to get at a racist heckler. Never saw a white man run that fast. But consider that Skip kicked him off the team, his best player, after LSU had won its way to Omaha. That's how bad his attitude was.

His stats are HOF worthy. He was an a-hole to sports writers so bring the petty self righteous group they are will not vote him in.

Him getting hit by a pitch and refusing to go to 1st base was a surreal baseball moment. It was actually way more intimidating to the pitcher than if he would have charged him. Behind only Mike Tyson, Albert Belle is someone I would even think of messing with.

He was held back by a teammate trying to climb the fence to get to the fan that was heckling him and using racial slurs…the fan had the 2x4 not Joey

Then we went to school together. It was actually country day I think but if I said that, nobody would no what that was. Joey was ahead of me by a couple of years. Played football and we had a ton of talent. But coach Rhodes only liked to run left, right and up the middle lol. Man I miss those days.

I was at HHS from 83-86. Graduated from Benton in 87. I was the only white boy on the basketball team at HHS 2/3 years there so you may know me. I went to Shreve Christian in jr high. Years later around 85 or 86 shreve Christian changed to country day. A few years after that it closed. Evangel moved into their facilities a year after it closed and grew to be a football powerhouse a few years after it moved.
Joey was a decent QB but a stud safety. Ecotry Fuller was the workhorse running back in 83. Joey could have played anywhere but knew baseball was his long term future. True story: he could have played football and baseball at Air Force but they didn’t want terry so they both went to LSU.

My brother played basketball on that Airline team that went 30-1 in 2006. He later played baskeball and baseball in college. He played Dixie ball and legion with the Belle's. You probably graduated with my brother in law (ex)

Their dad was my Freshman Football coach. Both Joey and Terry were just awesome kids.

Which was so weird to me, because he as such a polite kid. I used to talk to them after practice often, they would hang around with their dad.

I think we discussed this. I played against that 30-1 Airline team my jr year at hhs. I guarded one of their stud guards. I think he was a sophomore. They whipped us pretty good. Who was your ex BIL? If you’d prefer initials I can figure it out. There were 87 graduates from Benton in 87.

You’re right about Joey and terry being polite/friendly guys. They always spoke to me even though I was a freshman their sr year.
