I saw him hit the bottom of the old married Student apartments on a hanging slider from a lefty. People have no idea how far that actually was. I think it was about 150 -200’ feet past the wall in left. There were 2 chain length fences between it and left.
Jim Bowie hit a ball in the middle of Nicholson at the old box that rolled all the way to the front (next to the stadium) of the parking lot at Bernie Moore. He had some serious pop for a smaller first baseman.

It's funny how stories evolve over the years. it's also been said that he was called "that word" when, in fact, he was being called Buckwheat. At least that's what Terry told me in Broussard Hall one day.
I think it was Buckwheat and he did in fact jump the fence but it wasn't much worse than that.
I know folks like to throw the race thing out there with Moo U but we were not much better. I remember we were playing Tulane once and Tookie Spann was playing third base for them. He was the only black dude on that team. At least he was the only one on the field. Right when they took the field some fool in the third base bleachers at the old Box threw a basketball at him. He took it much better than JB. Just picked it up and chest passed it into the dugout. I think he took it home as a souvenir.

I just googled and found out that Tookie is no longer with us. He was an amazing 3 sport athlete, though I think he only played football and baseball at Tulane. He was a bulldozer FB. It seems his life went downhill after his attempt at MLB. Sad, he was a quality human being, RIP.

Was in the left field bleachers when Brandon Larson hit a dinger that was still gaining altitude as it passed over my head.

You should have seen practices with JB off of the pitching machine. We had to retrieve balls off of the roof of married student housing. One big fricking Easter egg hunt.

I saw Zeph Zinsman hit a ball so far it broke a window in Tiger Stadium.

You obviously didn't live in or know the west stadium dorms. All of those windows were kicked out well before game day back in the day. My freshman year, we would stand in the parking lot of West and shoot roman candles into their windows. That poor blind dude who worked the East side concession stand/washateria my freshman year at LSU? 5th floor of Hodges would wait for him to close then shoot bottle rockets at him as he waited for his ride:... "GET MORE QUARTERS!!!!"
