They weren’t -5 in ‘92.
Hotter than todays bats for sure, but -5 became a thing a couple years later.

That team had Larry Robson (NBA) John Russel (UNO) and Byron White (U. of Houston)

Back when Houston and UNO were good.

My brother was the center.

We’ve definitely discussed this in the past. I still can’t believe they lost to Lafayette High in the first round. At least LHS won state to ease the sting.

I just noticed you said 2006. I’m pretty sure you meant 1986.

David Benoit was on that team.

They had a forward also who was awesome. First HS kid I have ever seen cut his elbow on the backboard.

The year prior we lost to Carroll in the second round after beating Tony moss’s bossier team in the first. Carroll had Benoit Benjamin who played for the clippers.

was at HHS from 83-86. Graduated from Benton in 87. I was the only white boy on the basketball team at HHS 2/3 years there so you may know me. I went to Shreve Christian in jr high. Years later around 85 or 86 shreve Christian changed to country day. A few years after that it closed. Evangel moved into their facilities a year after it closed and grew to be a football powerhouse a few years after it moved.
Joey was a decent QB but a stud safety. Ecotry Fuller was the workhorse running back in 83. Joey could have played anywhere but knew baseball was his long term future. True story: he could have played football and baseball at Air Force but they didn’t want terry so they both went to LSU.

Pretty sure I know who you are. I was there 84-88. You played basketball with Randy White. I played football 85-88.

Which was so weird to me, because he as such a polite kid. I used to talk to them after practice often, they would hang around with their dad.

They were always cool with me. Iam not trying to bash skip but he did say he could of handle things differently. Joey and Terry's baseball coach was also our defense coach. He would get on your arse if you screw up but joke with you too. It's a shame Joey is not in the hof. He had a really good go at it in the majors.

His stats are HOF worthy. He was an a-hole to sports writers so bring the petty self righteous group they are will not vote him in.

Belle fell just 19 homeruns short of the 400 homerun mark and .005 short of a .300 career batting average that should have been a shoe-in for HOF. Even still, the voters were never going to vote him in because of his notoriety.

He did indeed, prolly hurt his HOF bid too.

The corked bat thing didn’t help either. He’s clearly a HOF talent, but his counting numbers aren’t good enough to overcome all the baggage. Would have been nice to see how he would have ended up if he hadn’t hurt his hip.

I knew he played at LSU, but was too young to see him play. (I probably did at the Box, but was too young to remember.) But besides Dale Murphy—my favorite player of all time—and Ronald Acuña Jr.—my favorite player now—and Barry Bonds from 2000-2005, Albert Belle is the only player I ever went out of my way to watch every AB on tv. He was so fricking good in his prime. And always looked pissed off, like he was offended the pitcher had the audacity to stand on the mound and pitch to him.

Dude was awesome at Tech. Watched him and PJ Brown dominate quite a few front courts at the Thomas Assembly Center.

That’s me. Hard to miss the only white boy until my jr year. Randy White’s sr year in 84-85 we were very good. Coach Jackson relied too heavily on JUST big bird when we had so many weapons. Kenny Davidson was one of them plus we had 3 really good guards. We lost to eventual state champ Carroll at least.

Had coach Jackson for geometry. He graded on the curve scale. Best score on test no matter what was an automatic A. I remember Kenny being all American at defensive tackle. Went to LSU and they moved him to tight end. He didn't play much but he went to the sugar bowl.

Belle’s stats in the 90s were really impressive and he really never to be associated with PEDs or really any rumors about him taking them.

Well that is seriously exaggerated. I played with the Belles at LSU. Walked on both of Joey's years here. Joey Belle was the most high work-ethic human I have ever known. Dude had keys to the old Box because he was there at 5:30 EVERY morning. I was just a shite walk-on 2nd baseman who hooked up with him in December his freshman year. I was there with him one morning and he did have the fricking keys... I soft-tossed him a bucket and after the bucket was done we picked up the balls and I'll be damned if he didn't take a knee for me. Loved that dude ever since. He destroyed at least 15 L-screens in front of me the next couple years but I learned to get my right shoulder out of the way pretty quick. Sad that steroids were legal back then. That is what ultimately got him. With booze... In any event, JB was a beast. And he made himself one.

It's funny how stories evolve over the years. it's also been said that he was called "that word" when, in fact, he was being called Buckwheat. At least that's what Terry told me in Broussard Hall one day.

I think you are correct. I remember the bats being somewhat hot in the early 90s and then stupid hot from about 95-98 when they deadened them.
