Why give it a casty? It's one of the fast growing NCAA sports and can potentially give us a little more title IX leeway when it becomes NCAA sanctioned.

This can be an exciting sport for many--seems to get increased tv coverage, so that is great!

However, why does LSU not have men's soccer?

Same reason it doesn't have wrestling, water polo, men's volleyball, or lacrosse.

Because it sucks for the rugby club who has dominated in the past, or even powerlifting. Both of which I think should be official before sand volleyball.

Doesnt say what gender but I am assuming just women. I thought we were already even?

Are either of those on the track to becoming NCAA sanctioned sports? I'm pretty sure Rugby isn't close.

i just did a search and rugby isnt close to being a sanctioned sport. there arent even any mens ncaa rugby teams in the country. they're all club. source is yahoo answers so take that fwiw (it could be wrong)

and i didnt understand what you meant about soccer, mens soccer is definitely sanctioned.

If LSU were to start a Men's Soccer program, it would be a varsity sport before Power Lifting and Rugby.

Because it's NCAA sanctioned. Sand Volleyball will be NCAA sanctioned within the next two or three years. That's why it was made a varsity sport. Also, it's status as a designated "emerging sport" means that scholarships can be awarded.

The NCAA doesn't sanction Rugby and Power Lifting, so athletic scholarships are not available and so the athletic department has no use in making those varsity sports.
