Because we have a bunch of marginally employed former wanna be jocks in this thread that want to act like they “know a lot about ball”. When the truth is 99% of the people here know about the same amount because if they truly knew more, they’d probably be employed in the actual sport.

And some claim to have never made an error

He will have one around 1.9 or so, most do, unless you are Milazzo and you are around 1.8

You know what, you make a great point I think you changed my mind. I think he should be kicked off the team. Also I think we should kick every pitcher with a 5+ ERA off the team too. They’ll probably suck next year too. Lol.

I'm saying neither is very good. Those hitting in that range aren't nearly as good as him defensively either.

.240 might not be great, but it's no where near pathetic. Those others you speak of aren't pathetic defensively.
Mizzou seemed to have pathetic defense, as did UF. UF had two .300 hitting catchers. I'll live with that.

You take out Auburn/Mizzou/LSU's shitty hitting catchers, and the average batting average of the starting catchers for the other 11 schools is .268.

And i'll say this, Milazo is a great defensive catcher, and i have hope that our new coach can help him as a hitter. Sometimes hitters just go through phases where they just suck. He obviously could hit in high school.

Stevenson hit .195 for LSU his freshman year, then bumped it up to basically .340 for the next two years. i'm not asking for that kind of astronomical increase, but if he can't be a .240ish hitter, he has no business being the catcher for LSU, could care less about his defense.

Not trying to change your mind. You think like a fan. I don’t. I’m not emotional over it at all

And yes, some pitchers have already left with more to follow. This roster was not close to lsu standards. And is getting corrected rather quickly

We don’t need to turn these threads into bashing a former coach. He’s gone. Look forward, not backward. Focus on where we are going, not where we have been.

Why do you think it became that way?

I've avoided attacking Milazzo specifically because my argument with DD was a fundamental one about what it takes to be a good defensive catcher and then iit got into how hard it is to find both defense and offense at the position.

But I agree (as would anyone) that a sub 0.200 isn't good enough and never will be. Lester is right in that most years, Milazzo would be a Jorgenson type who would come in late for Cresse or even start a few games here and there.

The Stevenson comparison isn't the best because he was just a freshman and he had projectable athleticism and talent at the plate. It was a small change he made to flatten his swing over the summer that made all the different. The barrel was through the zone for so much longer and he could make contact at a much higher rate. I don't see that kind of jump coming from Milazzo's size/frame. I don't know what his swing looked like during high school but no way it was as bad as it is now. Which is why I said he has regressed since he's been here.

I have no problem with players leaving or being asked to leave. I’m all for improving the team, which is why I like them bringing in McManus obviously. But both of our catchers are going to have to improve on parts of their game this off season. With an entirely new coaching staff coming in I think they will. But there are 7 months until this season starts and big changes are being made so idk what all the fuss is about right now

I mean it’s prob the same. I’ve said the recruiting has been poor up the last few years until this recent class

Just looking at the catchers on the roster last season, here are their high school stats. Hard to really see any red flags from a recruiting perspective.

Milazzo - .432 avg, .541 obp, .664 slug
Travinski - .429 avg, 1.560 ops
Wyeth - signed with Baylor out of high school, hit .433 in juco

Saul could have been here, too.
