I guarantee that if Sam showed up to camp on time, was in shape, and was a valuable contributing member to his team that he would still be a Houston Texan.
Unfortunately for him he was out of shape, didn't earn playing time, and got on Kubiaks bad side.
One thing for sure in the nfl, if you can play and they need you, rules can be bent. But if your a non essential player with a bad attitude they make an example of you real quick.

If I'm given a big contract and fame and fortune of being an NFL player and the owner says I can no longer drink beer because it's a team rule, I'm not drinking beer.
Doesn't matter if it's legal or harmless. I can choose not to sign and go work at Denny's. It's a choice.

No, its "just" something your employer told you precisely to avoid. Doesn't matter how harmless it is.
Millions of dollars? Nah, I'll smoke weed.

. this was just an easy way for the texans to cut non-contributing players
Yeah, because NFL teams can't cut non-contributing players. They have to make sure they are doing something illegal first.

wat????
The Rant told me in August that the whole Montgomery thing was just a bunch of Houston radio meanies who knew nothing about him and were making opinions solely based on what they heard at draft time.

So, what's the NFL going to do when a player for Seattle or Denver (where it's now legal) turns up with a positive test result? That'll be interesting...
Employers have rights regardless of state/federal laws. If you want to work for them you have to follow THEIR rules.

No, it's just the rules he agreed to follow to collect his paycheck.

Amazes me how some people are given everything and throw it away for nothing. If true, what a stupid arse
He wasn't given anything. Dude worked his butt off to get where he is. That being said... Yeah, he's pretty stupid. He'll get another shot though.

I might add that as a safety director for my employer, it is always easy to pick out the WEED smokers. They dont give a damn about anything. Show up late. Dont come in. Cant follow the rules. Why? WEED
