Can you frickers just enjoy the moment that we advanced? It’s fricking gymnastics, you are going to be up and down. The good news is this team is the most talented in country sans Florida and if they put it together for a few more meets they are national champs.

Yup I see it and this why I genuinely do not give a damn about the overscoring that happened for everyone. The "hatred" for these girls started when they were not masked or socially distancing properly for Gym 101. However, for the whole season, there were countless teams doing the same.

I genuinely do not care and I hope they win the National Championship, so they can all cry harder.

The Gym Online community is trash, but it is entertaining watching LSU fans that may not know anything about gymnastics go to battle with them lol

Eh I wouldn't go that far but they are definitely top 5 in terms of talent but definitely aren't getting the most out of our beam and bars rotations. Talent can only take you so far, ask Val and UCLA the last couple decades. We are championship caliber on vault and floor, just don't think we have it on beam and bars this year. Not sure we can fix some of these things in two weeks.

I hope they draw up a new dismount for Bryant on floor. I just don't think its worth it. She could learn a easier dismount in two weeks IMO. She adjusted to her middle pass on the fly in like 2 days.

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and all the gymnasts you mentioned were great. I don't think you have any idea about the leadership any of these seniors provide. There were inconsistencies across the board this season, even with the best gymnasts on the team. I just don't think you can compare the classes as there are so many factors that affect everyone in different ways. I feel after all they give of themselves there is no reason to be so harsh to say they all "have to go"

357, any chance that any of these Seniors return next year from your perspective?

Durante and Edwards are most likely IMO

I spoke with Haleigh’s dad about it last night and he gave me the same two names. Said that those two are very likely to return next year regardless of how this season ends up for us

Perhaps you’re right, and thanks for providing your opinion. I truly do respect the girls and all they give, but as with any other sport, fans expect results and I think we just haven’t ever gotten the output we expected from them, as a whole. I am not alone (been discussed throughout the season on various meet threads, etc) in saying this senior class never lived up To the hype (in performance - you are correct, I have no idea if they provide leadership intangibles outside of their performance, though I am not sure that you would either unless you are true team insider? If so, please share the details, so I can understand also!!). Now that they made it - I really hope they can show up and give the performance of their lives, seniors and all! I have no doubt the talent is and has always been there, so hopefully they can put it all together!

Also, as it relates to all the difficulty comments others have made tonight, I think if we could fix haleigh’s last floor pass, Alyona’s dismount, and literally all the rotating leaps we could see significant improvement in consistency next year (like how much dean improved without her rotating leaps this year should be the playbook for all other routines - also as much I love alyona’s onodi it may also have to go from a consistency standpoint - though I’ll give her sometime to settle into the beam lineup next year to see if she can get that down!)

I personally would love to see Gunter back in some capacity. She seems to be the heart and soul of this team and hardly ever got to compete on meet day, yet is always the biggest cheerleader out there

First thank you so much for the conversation. I agree, fans expect results. Four of the seven seniors contributed to 2 SEC championships as well as I believe the highest LSU score in championships in 2019. It is unfortunate that two of them came in pretty beat up and obviously could have done better if they were healthier. I believe they are the heart of the team in many ways, and I for one would love to see them all come back.

OG has already vocalized that she’s ready to close out this chapter of her life and move forward with other endeavors outside of gymnastics. I really wanted her to come back as well but she already has opportunities set up for the next year with regards to her life and what she hopes to do with it and wants to get started on them as soon as possible

Regional finals scores for the Elite eight:

Oklahoma 198.175
Michigan 198.100
Utah 197.925
LSU 197.750
California 197.750
Florida 197.700
Alabama 197.575
Minnesota 197.425

LSU has been an enigmatic team all season. The team which went head to head with Florida in the regular season and which showed up at the SEC meet must present for two nights. The ceiling may be higher for LSU than the other contenders given their score was achieved while having to discount the scores of their two super stars in three separate rotations after falls.

While some have claimed the senior class has not met their expectations its important to note they will be one of the most experienced teams in terms of performing in the finals. This might be crucial as the national lights shine brighter. Will Michigan, California or Minnesota falter in this environment.

Several other factors to consider:

Maggie Nichols ain't walking on the floor for Oklahoma this year.

The Crimson Tide ain't in Alabama any more, Toto.

How healthy will Trinity Thomas be?

Utah won't have the high altitude advantage this time.

It will take an incredible effort for two nights but as we have seen in the NCAA basketball tournament this season like no other nothing can be taken for granted. The team which can focus best, ignore the clutter and trust themselves, their coaches and teammates will leave with the crown. If last night's beam group shows up again and the stars align LSU might finally kick in that door they have knocked on several times.

Thanks so much for the discourse as well! Glad to be able to have a civil discourse even if we slightly disagree. That being said, Geaux Tigers and I hope all the experience the seniors have will pay off in two weeks!!

Exactly. This is a one time free pass given because of Covid and any of the gymnasts who want to return should be welcomed back by all programs. In retrospect, though it seems the offer should have been extended to last year's seniors since their final season was cut short on the eve of the championship schedule. Wouldn't it be nice to have Kennedi and Ruby in the lineups this season. Of course all the other teams would have the same benefit with their 2020 seniors.
