Safford reminds me of another LSU freshman ...

... from a few years back. Looks a little too small and not quite developed physically enough to hit consistently in the SEC, but shows some skills in the field, athleticism in general, and a pretty decent swing. The kind of player that might be really good in a couple years as his body develops and his eye and game get up to SEC speed.
I remember watching the player he reminds me of in his freshman year when Mainieri put him in to play a little second base or pinch hit. He just looked physically outclassed by the other players on the field, but you could see the potential. That player grew up quick and got better every year and ended up being a very good SEC starting shortstop and team leader ... his name was Kramer Robertson.
Give this kid Safford a chance. I still don't agree with throwing him in at 2B in the regional opener. But, I do think he might me a really good player in the next few years.

Theriot has worked with him since he was 5

Hey Safford’s mom. No offense to your son, but he’s not good enough for this level.

He’s about 4 inches shorter than Kramer robertson. If safford is 5’8 then Jordan Thompson is 6’3. His body is also developed pretty well. He’s pretty muscular he’s just a small human being.

Because you’re flaming the board trying to illicit a reaction

Go back and watch Robertson in his Freshman year (or go read posts from the Rant) - we all said the exact same thing about him as a freshman.

If anyone is a KRob type player it's Thompson.

Wow, the level of stupidity on this board is amazing!
I don't "flame." My post was a valid comment.
Remember this is in 2 or 3 years. He may not end up being a good or great player, but my point was: he damn well might. Keep an open mind and give the kid a little slack.

He’s probably not on any scholarship, but it’s still pretty wild that they took him on the team. Cole Freeman is would be the best case comp for him, but freeman hit .450 at Delgado before LSU took a chance on him. No idea why this guy is on the roster.

Go back and watch Robertson in his Freshman year

Yeah well at least back then Paul was smart enough and still good enough of a coach to know not to play a terrible freshman when he wasn't ready. Especially in a regional.

Spoken like a true old fogie. We don’t need a dead roster spot for 3 years. He should have gone Delgado or LSUE and if he developed something, been called up to the big leagues.

But his mother wasn’t Kramer’s mom.

Spare us! He is a Oompa Loompa.

You are right, you can’t write the book on Safford. He’s just getting started. But it doesn’t do the kid any good to play him when he wasn’t ready to play.

Freeman hitting in the 9 hole at LSU is something I’ll never understand.

Hopefully the new coach’s eye for talent is a lil better, and shitcans some of this excess baggage

Socrates wishes he was this thoughtful.
