Waters can’t stay infront of his man. He doesn’t fight through screens as well. Bama hit around 4 3s because WATERS went under the screen, instead of fighting through it. Wade need to focus more on the defense end.

Waters does not handle real defensive pressure well at all. I'd be up in his grill all day as an opponent.

So a freshman started lights out an now looks rough toward the end of his first season. The shite is hard, and learning to take care of your body is new for him.

And while I see overall improvement team-wise there, I don't with him. For someone of his quickness he gets beaten off the dribble way too easily.

Whether it's technique, focus, want-to or whatever it definitely should not be as easy as it has been for guys to blow right by him.

Sexton is one hell of an athlete. I wouldn’t be surprised if Saban tried to get him on the football field.
Sexton will be a member of an NBA team by next fall. He's a lottery pick.

no, college kids can play ball all day every day. The season's not long and it's only 2 games per week. This isn't the NBA with 82 games, 4 games per week, and 41 on the road.

Fatigue isn't a problem for college players. It's just that other teams have figured him out.

I think it's his size that is the biggest issue. He's really and "all or nothing" guy on defense. What I mean is that he is always looking for the steal (he leads the SEC). When he can't get it, he's in horrible guarding position and guys can blow by him. His size probably limits him though. He may think that if he just defends much bigger players straight up they'll either just shoot over him or drive right at him and bully him in the paint.

Unfortunately, the make up of this team amplifies the perimeter lapses on defense because there is no rim protector. For example, LSU could play shitty defense on the perimeter when Jordan Mickey was here because he cleaned up a ton of mistakes at the rim. He made a weak defense good. Tyrus Thomas did the same thing in 05-06. But he made a good defense great.

Hopefully both William's can do that for LSU next season. If so, then Waters can gamble for steals up top and when he misses knows there are guys waiting at the rim to block the drives.

this is truth

no presence in the paint for this squad kills them on both D and O

halfway into the year and other coaches are game planning against him. The last several games, other teams are putting longer athletic forwards out to defend Waters so he can't shoot or pass around them. It's been frustrating him and he's had to shoot farther out and contested. One thing you will notice is our guys are terrible at setting screens or the guards using the screens properly. Our defense has gotten better over the course of the year, and we'll never be a great rebounding team THIS year. CWW needs to get those young guys working on those screens better.

Oh I agree there, but he gets beat way too easily for a person of his quickness even when he's playing someone his size and he's not going for steals. That's what I'm saying. He's too quick to be gone by like he's standing still as often as he does. WW has not gotten him to buy into playing D all the time yet.

Absolutely, Epps and Reath's height is wasted because neither can guard the post, block shots are even really threaten to, and they get pushed around with ease. Not to mention teams can't wait to put them in pick and rolls and expose their lack of lateral quickness which they do quite often. The ripple effect for the rest of the defense is magnified.

But early and easy straight line drives have been just as devastating and that often starts with Waters.

Our PG struggles against big aggressive defenders. Alabama will rough you up, and they did exactly that.

He will be fine. Chill out folks.

this is absolutely not true. he's still getting plenty of shots, getting to the rim, etc. they just aren't falling.

i don't understand how someone can think this. waters is still getting any shot he wants, is still getting to the rim and is still making plenty of passes. his shots aren't falling and he is making some unforced passing errors. he's just come back down to earth some. he's still really really good.
