for as small as Franklin, LA is (pop 6,200) these 9 players made it to the NFL -

I grew up in Jeanerette next door. Franklin had some monster good players. I remember seeing #62 wrecking offensive lines on TV in the 1980s. Prayers to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Darrell Phillips was an absolute beast on the LSU defensive line.
The explosive noseguard dominated the trenches for the Tigers.
• 6’0”, 225 lbs noseguard from Franklin, LA (1985-88)?• Career totals: 228 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 10 sacks?• All-SEC in 1987 and 1988?• Senior season featured 14 tackles for loss, showcasing his elite disruption ability

I'm sorry to hear this. His mom worked with my mom at the hospital. He came by the house one day and shot hoops with us and sent his Gator Bowl jersey to me. Last week my mom was cleaning out my old closet and she sent me the jersey. My youngest daughter took it and is looking to get it cleaned so she can wear it to the games. I have a picture from that day, he was a huge guy. It was a great day.

Damn. I was at LSU at the same time, so I know we are close in age. One of many very good defensive players at LSU during those years.
