While it may be the truth everything he says is calculated.
He knows he's got a tough (likely) 1v2 matchup with UGA, and FSU tanked and the west is down. Propping us up and and trying to beat us down creates the quality win narrative he will campaign on if they happen to lose to UGA.
Doesn't mean he can't mean it, just think that'd be his play here regardless.
