I'm not gonna put down Eddie Robinson or say he wasn't a great coach but winning on the biggest stage matters and Saban is the GOAT.

I will. Eddie Robinson did at at what is almost the JUCO level. Could he have done it at the Major College level? We will never know.

It's not fair that a black man like ER did not have the opportunity back then, but the world is rarely fair. People are born with all kinds of disadvantages that they bear in life - unattractiveness, stupidity, a birthplace like North Korea, genetic illnesses, etc.

Can we claim, for any of these people, that he would have been the GOAT if not for...?

Seems to be the minority. Fewer than what I expected to find on the Rant today.

OP is wrong, but Eddie Robinson was a great coach!

There is a difference between disadvantages that can be overcome and those that can't. You wouldn't say a crippled kid didn't make it to the NBA because he didn't work hard enough would you?

Now like I said originally, you also wouldn't say the crippled kid is the GOAT even if he set records in the crippled Olympics in wheelchair basketball. But you shouldn't deny that the kid is great just because he didn't make the NBA.

Stop.

He's the best.

Won at two different schools in the hardest conference in the sport and did it consistently and in dominant fashion during the most competitive era in college football history.

As a Robinson admirer growing up I will respectfully disagree. Saban won NC at different universities and on the biggest stages. Unfortunately Robinson coached his entire career at Grambling. Would Eddie Robinson have won a NC at LSU or Bama? Absolutely! He was a great coach, recruiter and motivator but in my opinion Saban is the GOAT. Eddie Robinson is right there.

What you're doing is a disservice to Eddie Robinson. Instead of praising him, you're forcing everyone to say he isn't the best and call you a dumbass.

You are wrong. Saban is the GOAT and it's not really up for debate in 2024..

One of the dumbest takes I’ve seen on this site . Saban is the GOAT and you’ve gotten to witness that first hand

Why are so many LSU fans threatened by the idea of Saban being the GOAT?

I don't get it either. I despise Saban but it is impossible to have any rational thinking ability and not see he is the greatest coach in NCAA history if there is a way to gauge such a thing given how the game has dramatically changed over the last century and a quarter. He is unquestionably the greatest of this era of football and probably (I think is) at lest he last several eras.

Truly an incredible man and legendary coach who is vastly underappreciated! ER was one of the all time greats, no doubt.

In a day when blacks couldn’t play for southern college football programs Robinson sent more than 200 of his players into the National Football League. Players like Buck Buchanan, Willie Brown and Charlie Joiner, who are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Imagine if you got all the good Southern black players on one team.....yeah, you should be damn good. I wonder if Saban coached that team if they would have had 400 go to the NFL

Eddie Robinson coached in the SWAC. They are just a few steps above JUCOS. He was a great coach, but he never would have made it in the big leagues.
