Should we fire Pawl now?

Perkins up, runner on 1st, 2 outs

foul, 0-1
throw to 1st
throw to 1st gets away, runner to 2nd
popup to Smith in left, inning over!

For as fast as duplantis is, he gets thrown out a lot on steals. 19 for 27 last year, 3 for 7 now this year

I mentioned this last week, and was met with some confusion. He's just not a great base runner. His speed saves him from being thrown out 70% of the time, because technique-wise, he's lacking there.

Mark Laird was similar his first two years. But he figured it out by year three. I would have thought Duplantis could have figured it out by his senior year.

Like I said last night, I think this happens in college ball more often than the runner is tagged out.

Some sabermetrics would be interesting.

We have not been a great baserunning team in some time.

I don't think it's unique to LSU, but just like playing first base, I think baserunning is undercoached. It's just assumed that these guys are good enough athletes to just do it correctly.

I definitely agree but the purpose isn't always to throw the runner out.
